So, for starters, you could try calling the Town Clerks' offices in Malden and Melrose and ask them to check the death certificates. Malden's official home page is http://www.cityofmalden.org/ Melrose's official home page is http://www.cityofmelrose.org/ Start with Malden as that is where she died. BTW, both Malden and Melrose are in Middlesex County. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I went to www.whitepages.com and put in last name Rice and Boston, MA and came up with 50. Mary Hamilton that married George - the birth, marriage and death records online only go to the year 1915(there are some for 1915-1920 but you can only 'browse' rather than 'search'. So for info after 1915, you could go to the Mass Archives - the have on microfilm the BMD index for the years 1915-1970. You could find info that way - depending on the year you might be able to find parent's names on the birth index. You could then go right down the street to Mass Vitals and see actual record. Mass Vitals has records to current year. They charge $9 an hour, if you are there less than that sometimes they don't charge. But that's why I use Mass Archives first, saves a little time. I am looking for descendants of Charles Marshall Hamilton (Married Rose Romelda Cowan), & Arthur Augustus Hamilton (married Ethel Julia Fielding) and Edward Hamilton (Married Mabel). My great grandfather Charles Marshall was born in 1880, Arthur abt 1878 & Edward in 1879. The immigrated to Boston, MA around 1903. Arthur had 5 chidden one of them was Mary Muriel Hamilton who married George Rice. Through my searches, I have found that there is a living relative that may still live in the Boston area with the last name Rice. It appears that my great grandfather did not remain close to his brothers because my grandfather (Gilbert Moran Theodore Hamilton born 1909 in Boston, MA) never mentioned that he had uncles to anyone in the family although they all resided in Boston. If anyone has any information about the Rice's or Hamilton's in the Boston area please respond to this thread or contact me at d_wanastahom@yahoo.com or deborah.hamilton@siemens.com. 610-500-1! 152. That is great stuff!!! Lots and lots of information. I tend to think at this time though that it might not be my William. While there are seemingly a lot of things that match there are about as many things that don't match. I have ordered the death record of William from the GRO in England along with what might be his birth record. At least that record is closer in the date of birth and in the parents named. I will definitively keep your information on hand. I should get the records in about two more weeks. In 1851 in Acton, MA(that's where Robert Boss died) George Boss was born, parent's are Robert and Hanna - Robert is a farmer, born in Newport RI and now Harriet is Hanna born in Charleston. I've seen this happen where info gets messed up but I just want to be sure.(I attached that birth). The birth occured in Acton but residence of parent's is Charlestown just like the 1850 Census. I also attached the 1865 Mass Census - found Hanna, a widow which would be correct and her son George, age is correct, living in Malden, MA - looks like they are in a boarding house - no other family members with them. I can't find Hanna and George on the 1870 Census but I did find William H married to Eliza - he is 28 b Mass. She is 25 born Maine. That would put William's birth 1842. If you look back at the 1850 Census that I gave you for William, I can't tell is his age is 5 or 8 - if it's 8 it would put his birth 1842, which could make him the William on the 1870 census, which isn't really close to the birth year you had. Like I said before info can get messed up. It looks like this William was married twice - first is in 1869 to Mary E. Welts - the E could stand for Eliza which would be the couple on the 1870 Census. Then this William gets married again in 1889, he is widowed. Parent's on both records are Robert and Hanna. William's occupation is not a mariner on any of this info. I hope I haven't made this too confusing for you. I quess you're going to have to sort this out to make sure Robert on the 1850 Census is the father of your William. If I can confuse you any more, give a holler! Margaret Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I attached the 1863 death of Captain Robert Boss in Acton - it says he's a retired sea captain and stilled married at the time of his death. There is a Robert Boss in Acton, MA on the 1860 Census but I use www.familysearch.org and it doesn't show actual image, can't see who else is with him. Maybe you could post another message for someone to look at record for you so you can make sure this is the right family.
