    1. [MASUFFOL] STEWART Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Flossie A. STEWART which was taken at the Chickering Studio in Boston, MA. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with Flossie listed as 13 months + 6 days old at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Flossie and her family: Florence Anna STEWART was b. 6 Jan 1882 in East Boston, MA and married Thomas Henry HAWKINS (b. 24 Dec 1885 in Hamilton, Wentworth Co, Ontario, Canada) about 1906. The couple had 4 children including Thomas Henry HAWKINS Jr. b. 17 Aug 1913 in Medford, MA. Florence died 25 Jul 1975 in Braintree, MA. I am hoping to locate someone from Flossie's family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: cmcfete Surnames: Button, French Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.massachusetts.counties.suffolk/8015/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, I am trying to determine whether Mary Button of Guilford, CT, who married Thomas French, of Charlestown and then Guilford, CT, is the daughter of Sir Thomas Button of Bedford, England and Boston, MA (1599-1681). There is some research that suggests that Thomas Button was married to a Grace Button and that they were, in fact, the parents of the Mary Button who married Thomas French. Other research I have found suggests that Mary was the daughter of a different Thomas Button, and there has been speculation about the obvious difference in the handwriting of the two gentlemen of the same time...Also, the observation that, had Sir Thomas had children, they were not named clearly in his will... I would be very interested in any information or insights. Thank you so much. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. However,I don't see a connection with the surnames you mentioned. My GGGrandfather married a women named Ellen Tully. Their children married into families with the surnames Kilroy, Murray, Cummings, Burke, Kenney, and Foley. I did find a connection to an O'Donnell on my grandmother's side of the family, but the surname it would be connected to would have been Duggan. Thanks for responsing though. Author: angie_feeney Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.massachusetts.counties.suffolk/8014/mb.ashx Message Board Post: A bit of a long shot this one but does anyone have access to any Boston newspaper archives that might have reported on a public auction of ships on October 3, 1866. I'm trying to find out about the latter stages of the USS Port Royal which was a civil war gunboat. All records stop with the info that she was sold at Boston, Massachusetts, October 3, 1866. Would like to find out who she was sold to so's I can find out about what happened to her after. She would most likely have been renamed rather than scrapped as she was only built in 1862. On the same day 2 other ships were sold which might help with cross-referencing in case the Port Royal is not named herself: USS FEARNOT - renamed Nevada Sold at public auction, October 3, 1866, at Boston, Mass., to William F. Weld & Co., for $19,500, by Horatio Harris & Co. LT.SS PONTOOSUC Sold, October 3, 1866, at Boston, Mass., for $6,800. Description of the Port Royal: Launched: January 17, 1862 at New York Commissioned: April 26, 1862 at the New York Navy Yard Decommissioned: May 23, 1866 Struck: 1866 (est.) Fate: sold at Boston, Massachusetts, October 3, 1866 Type: Sassacus double ended steamboat Displacement: 805 tons Length: 209' Beam: 35' Draft: 9' Depth of hold: 11' 6" Propulsion: steam engine, side-wheel propelled Speed: 9 knots Thanks for looking and/or helping. I think I will do that. I checked also and could not find a stone. I suppose if she were alone...I doubt that....she may not have one. I tried google and brought up the entrance to the cemetery, but google did not take any video pictures inside. I am amazed that for twenty years I have travelled nearby on 495 on my winter trips to Florida and my wife's shopping adventures and did not realize she is buried there. If I get there in the future I will take the exit and see what I can find personally. Any cemeteries I have seen around Boston tend to be huge and crowded so I may not have a lot of luck unless I can link up with the ground's keeper. I will also see if I can find someone responsible for the records. Sincere thanks for all your help...greatly appreciated. What you have located is her sister Hannah, who did indeed marry Charles W. Looks like Boston was a popular place for this family of Quinn's to reside and visit. My great grandfather, who owned Liverpool Iron Foundry,( Hannah would be his aunt) loved to sail to Boston with his girls on shopping trips. My grandfather's home was filled with furniture, draperies, and china purchased in Boston. Being all dressmakers, they brought back huge quantities of materials, designs, and the latest hats as well. You did find something I did not have, and for which I am grateful, is Hannah's marriage information/documents in the USA. Thanks.
