A ticket agent in those days sold, among others, railroad tickets. The relatives if an immigrant could purchase a RR ticket for him in advance of his arrival. The ticket could be picked up at the agency office and the immigrant would then be set to travel to his final destination. Salem St. was close to the waterfront. There were several other ticket agents on that and nearby streets. You can find them in Boston City Directories if the period. It has the same date I found from an obit in a newspaper. I'll have to see if I can get Robert's death cert. I haven't seen those years for the CA Death Index on Family Search. I'll have to check it for other relatives. I found those baptism records you linked to very recently. I thought that it is a likely match, also. Mary's mother's obit stated that she was from County Cork and the date for Mary's baptism is about right. I found a wedding record for Peter and Ellen at the Irish church records site, too. It seems that the family name was sometimes spelled Geany, Geaney, and Ganey. I suppose Geany said with an Irish accent might sound like Ganey to a census taker. Mary's sister Louise (who I believe never married) was always referred to as Miss Louise Geany in obits for other family members. I've been going with that spelling but I still do searches using the other spellings too. Thanks so much for your help me with this. I had seen the 1900 Census with all the children born in CA. I've since seen the others and the birth records of John and James. I cannot find the marriage, though. Is this perhaps the death index for your Robert? (bottom right, age 76, dod 04/12/1908. And from page 6, 90 is the code for San Francisco County. Foolowing the example on page 6, his death certificate would be 08-010894.) https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1961-26179-11068-43?cc=1932433&wc=14216745 Also curious where you got Mary's maiden name? I ask because I was wondering if it was perhaps Mary Garvey, the family Robert was staying with in 1860. Age is about right. I was wondering why his birth record was so hard to find and your response explains it well. Robert was probably married in Boston and mostly likely was Catholic (his children were and he was buried in a Catholic Cemetery). I'll keep digging around. Your best bet is to try and find his marriage record, although, if that occurred in CA, that might be difficult as well. You could try for the death record, but I'm not sure how much confidence I would have. In case you need membership for the above link, the text is below: Question: I am having difficulty finding Boston births from the 1820's and 1830's. I find that my ancestors appear in the city directories, but why is it there are no births recorded for the children? The 1820-1840 U.S. Census enumerates the family with children under the age of 10 in each case. Answer: During the the period from 1790 to 1850 there were very few births recorded in the town and later city of Boston. Many genealogists have found that searching for church baptism records to offer some solution to these missing records. I would suggest looking for the marriage of the parents to determine the religion. If the marriage occured in Boston you can acquire the name of the minister from the record. NEHGS has the Boston marriages 1801-1848 on microfiche at Microtext Library on the Fourth Floor. After acquiring the name of the minster, then search for him in a Boston city directory to determine his religious affiliation. NEHGS has many Boston church records on microform, books, manuscripts and CD-Rom. John Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. They may have been James and Catherine Cunningham who lived on the same street as he did in the 1860 Census. To confuse matters, there was another Robert Cunningham of the same age in Boston. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Paul WEEKS which was taken at The Meredith NH Studio. The photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with Paul listed as 3 years old at the time. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Paul and his family: Paul Albion WEEKS was b. 7 Jan 1907 in Meredith, NH to parents Fred Merrill WEEKS (b. 9 Mar 1875 in Warren, NH) and Lucy Jane Ethello MCCRILLIS (b. 29 Jul 1874 in Boston, MA). Paul was one of 5 children born to this couple including, Charles Adelbert; Donald Hayden; George Merrill; Howard F.; and Paul Albion WEEKS, all born in Meredith, NH between 1898 and 1916. Paul married Ruth E. KENNON (b. Weirs, NH) on 27 May 1934 in Meredith, NH and died in March 1971. Paul's father was a Merchant in Meredith, NH and his wife Ruth's father was a Hotel Owner in Meredith, NH. Census records provide the following information: 1920 census of Meredith, NH: Fred M. WEEKS, age 44, born NH, parents born NH, a Merchant Lucy J. E. WEEKS, wife, age 45, born MA, parents born MA Howard F. WEEKS, son, age 18, born NH Paul A. WEEKS, son, age 12, born MH Donald H. WEEKS, son, age 9, born NH 1930 census of Meredith, NH: Fred M. WEEKS, age 55 Lucy J. WEEKS, age 55 Paul A. WEEKS, age 23 Donald H. WEEKS, age 20 I am hoping to locate someone from this WEEKS Family so that the photograph can be returned to its rightful place, with family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
