My Grandfather came to USA in 1896 on the Stuttgart. As far as I know he went to Lynn MA. Married my grandmother Victoria. around 1886 a daughter Nellie was born Oct. 1887. They then moved to Hyde Park MA. He went by the name of Charles, Joseph, Ludwig. He was in the 1910, 1920 and 1930 Census. I have been unable to obtain these. Am now in FL. I could never find her maiden name and wonder if any one had access to birth records. Nellie Oct. 1887 Helen Sophie Julia Walter Mary born July 4, 1908. She was my mother. Hello All, In July of 1969 there was an article entitled Early Griggs Families of Massachusetts written by H. Minot Pitman, F.A.S.G., of Bronxville, New York which appeared in The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, 123 (1969):169-173. In that article the author discusses, among others, the family of George Griggs who arrived in Boston in June 1635 in the Hopewell. Per the article, George Griggs and his wife Alice had eight children, including three sons Thomas (b: 1619/20), William (b: 1620/21) and James (b: 1632/35). Yes, that is true. There was a cemetery discovered in Roxbury after the Archdiocese of Boston sold the land to a developer who then began to dig foundations for buildings only to discover hundreds of remains. Turns out that the church that is no longer there (St. Joseph's) had a burial ground. The remains are being boxed up and are supposed to be interred in a "cemetery in Waltham" pending finding out whose remains they are. At least that is the report from NECN yesterday. Christine L. There were two Marshalseas living in Brockton, MA. I know of them because they were married to girls I knew from Cambridge. The men were brothers but that is all I know of them . The wives names were Eleanor and Alice. JP usually means Jamaica Plain , an area of Boston. The family was still in Boston in 1920 and 1930 - Theo and Sarah's children (as far as I know) were Mary Ellen, Dorothy, Jean, Robert, Charles and Frederick. Charles was in the Navy and Frederick in the Marines, and both are buried at Massachusetts National Cemetery. They died within a week of each other in December 2002. Has anyone seen any references at all to MARSHALSEA in Boston? Theo appears in one directory that I've found from 1925 - he was a painter of 57 Hyde Park Ave, JP (another question: what does the JP mean? I've seen it in another address as well). I'm in Australia and don't have access to local libraries or archives. I have some details from USA censuses looked up in our State Library here in Melbourne, but wondered if there were any descendants out there, or someone who knew the family. Theophilus and my husband's family both descend from Matthew MARSHALSEA (1810-1879) and Matilda COOKE (1815-1889).
