    1. [MASTERS] STEPHEN MASTERS/JUDITH SLOAT
    2. Diane
    3. Has anyone searching the above line ever found any information about Judith's parentage??? Stephen Masters b 1754 Sussex Co., NJ m Hardiston, Sussex Co. 9/16/1783 Judith SLOAT b 4/6/1764 NY (as 1850 Ohio Census shows). Stephen's line goes back to Richard b c 1700, etc., but I cannot find a thing regarding Judith's actual birth place or her parents or siblings. Is Judith perhaps a sister to Elias SLOAT b 1767 Newark, NJ (he migrated to Canada married into the HAVENS family)? Elias named his 1st son 'Abraham' - perhaps after Abraham shown below? Are Abraham and Elizabeth SLOAT, shown as members of the First Baptist Church, Wantage, Sussex Co., NJ 1791, her parents??? Any info on my 'lost' Judith appreciated. His father was James Alexander b. 1841 N.C. d.12-17-1908 Whitfield Co.,GA [some evidence b. The Griffin Family have been thoroughly researched BUT can find nothing more than what I have re: MASTERS. There was a relative - "Uncle" Robert Masters in Calhoun, Ga., and "Uncle Walter & Aunt Zula ? ? Masters Redwine of Redwine Cove were relatives. I could not connect the Masters that had the 'tire company' and the others in Dalton to our family. None of the older Masters-Griffins remember hearing their elders talk of their parents, etc. John Albert lived with us in his later years. He told me many times that he was Black Dutch. Have read all I can about the Black Dutch and the Melungeons. John Albert was a small man, red hair and piercing blue eyes when he was young; genteel and enjoyed life; played a harmonica and jew's harp & sang little ditties. It is unusual to find only 3 children in a family in late 1800's, were there others in NC? Need any information about other Masters relatives in GA or NC. I live in Huntsville, AL and go to GA [Dalton & Blairsville] whenever I can. [I attended Westside H.S., worked in Courthouse for many years, my husband taught school at Valley Point H.S. & Eastside School.]

    1. RE: [MASTERS] New List Administrator
    2. Thanks, Dave! Hello, Everyone! I'm looking forward to picking up the ball for Dave, and getting back into one of my own lines again. Seems like the last year or so, I've been busier with other folks' research than my own. Maybe I've given it enough of a rest that something new will surface in the process of watching over our list. As an introduction, I've been working on my family's genealogy for a little more than seven years at this point, since just before the arrival of my eldest grandson. My Masters descendency is through my mother's paternal line, through Richard and Isabella. Briefly... Richard Masters (1746-1813) m Isabella Campbell George Masters (1790-1825) m Catherine Dietz Charles H. Masters (c. 1837-c. 1855) m. Charlotte Thermon (Thurman) Henry E. Masters (1871-1934) m. Nettie Short Victor E. Masters (1903-1971) m.(#2) Augusta K. Henke Nadine F. Masters m. John D. Reeves Yours truly. The family's history has been traced from New York, to Virginia and West Virginia, to the Dakotas, Colorado, and on to California...so we're spread from coast to coast. I sure wish that I'd been more interested in genealogy when I was younger and my father was in the Navy, and we visited all those places. It's so much harder to get original documents when you're in the Arizona Desert! I know several members of the list through our common ancestors, and I'm looking forward to getting to know more of you in the months to come. Please feel free to say hello in email, at reeveskl@earthlink.net. Dave, I want to say a special thank you for the help you've been over the last several years. I'm really glad that you'll be staying around, and looking forward to seeing all your years of hard work gel for your own family, and our 'extended' one, as well! You've done a terrific job, I hope I'll be able to follow decently in your footsteps! 1. [MASTERS] Sculpture of Harry Masters in the Veterans Memorial Museum in Branson
    2. Jason Masters
    3. For anyone interested in WWII, you might be interested to learn that a Harry Masters was selected to represent the State of Maine in the Veterans Memorial Museum in Branson, Missouri as one of the 50 life-sized statues created to comprise a 70-foot long bronze sculpture (the largest war memorial bronze in the world.) If you would like to see a picture of this sculpture, go to the Veterans Memorial Museum Branson website at: http://www.veteransmemorialbranson.com/ He is the third or fourth man in the sculpture. There are numerous articles in Maine papers (such as the Lincoln County News and the Portland Press Herald) recounting Harry Masters exploits in WWII. These articles can be accessed online through the websites archives. One article can be found at this address: http://www.mainelincolncountynews.com/index.cfm?ID=965 There is also a plaque in Round Pond, Bristol, Lincoln Co., ME. in the field Harry landed in July, 1943 when he parachuted out of a C-47 (civilian D-3) in order to attend his brother Williams funeral. William Masters ship was torpedoed off the coast of Cape May, New Jersey on June 24, 1943 by a German sub. There is also a large scrap book compiled by Harry Masters himself which now resides in the Skidompha Library in Damariscotta, Lincoln Co., ME. It contains the stories listed above plus his other exploits while in the 82nd and the 505. The library's address is http://www.skidompha.org/ Harry's father was Harry O'Brien Masters b. 23 Jun 1875 in Thomaston, Knox, Maine. He later resided in Round Pond with his wife, Eva M. Sherman b. 16 Jun 1882 in Fall River, Mass. d. 27 Oct 1970 in Bristol and buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Round Pond, Bristol, Lincoln Co., Me. They had nine children. Harry OBrien disappeared around 1920 and was never heard from again. Supposedly, they found his coat in either New Haven, Connecticut or Springfield, Massachusetts. The details of his disappearance are sketchy. Harry was an electrician by trade but had to travel outside of the area to find work. His wife Eva M. Sherman was a school teacher.
