G'day Cobbers, Have made a little progress with my MASSEY research. I believe that William MASSEY's father is a William MASSEY, his father being John MASSEY from Saintfield, County Down, NIR. William (Snr) father was John MASSEY of Saintfield in County Down, a farmer who died 19 Feb 1858 at Saintfield aforesaid was proved at Belfast by oath of William MASSEY of Ballymacarrett in the said county, coal factor, sole executor. The Will of William MASSEY (Snr) of Durham Street, Belfast, makes mention of sons William (Jnr) and Joseph, and a daughter, Elizabeth and his wife Sarah. >From "Old Belfast Families and the New Burying Ground", a headstone for William MASSEY reads: Erected by William Massey of Saltwater Bridge to the memory of his wife Elizabeth Massey who departed this life (on the 5th day of January 1825 aged 38 years. Also four of his children who died young. Also the above Named William Massey) who departed this life on the 2nd day of May aged 65 years, also Samuel son of the above died 29th June 1866 aged 38 years. Also Sarah second wife of the above William Massey died 8th January 1896 aged 89 years. I believed that William MASSEY (Snr) married Sarah CLATWORTHY (parents: Samuel & Jean CLOTWORTHY of Hanover Quay) on the 26 Jun 1825: Rosemary Street Church, Belfast, Antrim, Ireland by Rev. Samuel Hanna (a famous Presbyterian minister who was known as "Roaring Hanna" because of his very loud voice and "rip roaring" sermons). I wonder if William's earlier marriage was to Elizabeth TOWNSLEY? Would SKS be able to do a lookup of William MASSEY in Belfast in the 1851 Census for me?
