    3. On 12 June 2003, Eleanor received the following message: >>I am researching my Massey roots from Tishomingo County, Miss. I pulled up your family tree and I notice that you list John M. Massey, b. 1817 as being the children of William, b. 1802 and mother Martha Heath, b. 1807. William would only have been 15 at the time of John's birth and Martha would have been 8. I believe John M., married to Lucinda, is the son of Hezekiah Massey, b. 1790 in VA and was in Tishomingo Co. in 1860 along with John. Just thought I'd pass that on. Also, book called "Chotankers", written by Avon Edward Foote quotes records from Tishomingo listing John M. as a son of Hezekiah.<< I think an answer to this will also be of interest to other reqders. See also Judge Frank Masesy's ADDENDUM, 329. I feel comfortable in placing John Milton Massey (b. 1816/17; 1m. Lucindo ----; 2m. Mary "Polly" Hanks) as son of Hezekiah (5) Massey and ---- Vanlandingham. This Hezekiah (5) n. 1789/90, presumably in VA, lived during his prime years (1820-1850) in Lancaster Co., SC; he d. 1 Mar 1861 in Tishimingo Co., MS. Hezekiah (5) is most likely from James(4); James(3); Joseph (2); Richard (1) Massey. I was surprised several years ago when I first saw an occurrence of a Hezekiah [Hezekiah(5)] as a descendant of Joseph(2). But Massey Genealogy 2000 gives a convincing account that Joseph(2) actually had a SON Hezekiah(3), identifiable as the "extra" Hezekiah (3) in the 1748 Brunswick Co., VA voting list. One Hezekiah (3) in that list is easily identifiable as son of Richard(2) and Anne Pettipool Massey (and hence my 5-great grandfather.) The "extra" Hezekiah (3) was first thought to be son of Hezekiah(2), but this Hezekiah (3) had already relocated in Granville Co., NC by 1748. The liberal appearance of the name "Hezekiah" in all three branches [Hezekiah(2), Joseph(2), and Richard(2)] of our Charles City Co., VA line of Masseys inspired the statement in Massey Genealogy 2000 that the father-in-law of apparent emigrant Richard (1) was probably named Hezekiah ----. Regards to all, Theron Smith.
