Albert Sidney Massey - date of birth, place of birth ...unknown ... buried in Navarro Co., TX>> Thanks to the superb data collection of fellow researcher and friend Eleanore Crespo, we can now apparently reliably trace Albert Sidney Massey back to the first Massey emigrant to this country. The following is the descent of interest as compiled by Eleanore with a few adjustments that I think are needed: 1. Richard Massey (1661-1699) of Puddngton, co. Chester, England and Charles City Co., VA. See William W. Massey's MASSEY GENEALOGY 2000 for more discussion and a detailed ancestry of this Richard. [This generation is different from what Eleanor had found.] 2. Joseph Massey (1686/91 - 1760) of Brunswick Co., VA; 2d wife, Elizabeth family name unknown) appears to be mother of William. Joseph's older brother, Hezekiah(2), was ancestor of Judge Frank Massey and William W. Massey, and, younger brother, Richard(2) was my ancestor. An older half brother of William is believed to be Eleanore's ancestor. 3. William Massey (1733/7 - 1841?) - lived in Lancaster Co., SC. Wife was Elizabeth Rives. These are believed to be (although not rigorously proven to be) parent of: 4. Joseph Massey (1773-1860) of Lancaster Co., SC. Wife was Martha Hood. 5. William Henry "Billy" Massey (1813- 1867); born in Lancaster Co., SC. Eleanore's notes says died in DeSoto Co., MS and buried in Upshur Co., TX. Wife was Sarah "Sallie" Montgomery. Some records show her dying in Upshur Co., TX in 1874. However, in the 1880 Upshur Co., TC census, she appears as Sallie L. Black age 52 [i.e., b. 1827/8] and the mother of the children attributed to Billy and Sallie in Eleanore's list. So it looks like she married ----- Black after Billy died, outlived him, and died sometime after 1880. 6. Albert Sidney Massey b. 5 Sep 1864 by Eleanore's data. This agrees with the 1880 census where he is shown as Sydny Massey, age 15 [i.e., b. 1864/5.] He m. Ida Mae Houghton; had 5 children and d. 1923. This trace turned out so well, I thought others would be encourgaged by it. I regret that I can't find Albert Sidney Massey in a 1900/1910/ or 1920 census. The first two censuses should show his children. Regards, Theron Smith.
