    3. Joseph Massey, II was born on January 9, 1808 Buncombe Co., North Carolina He died in 1887 in Lampassas Co., Texas. He is buried at Matthew's Ranch, Menard Co., Texas. Joseph Massey, II was married to Catherine Ray on April 11, 1830 in Cedar Creek, Fayette or Shelby Co., Alabama Can anyone tell me about "Matthew's Ranch" in Menard Co., Texas? - was it an actual ranch, perhaps owned by Mr. Matthew? - if so, was Joseph perhaps living or working there when he died? - or, was it the name of a town in Menard Co., Texas Any information appreciated. 3. I have never found a connection between my great grandfather Joseph Massey (b 1808) and Elam Waddel, a Cumberland Presbyterian minister. I have been told that Elam's wife was Margaret R. Campbell, and they married 5 April 1827 in Lauderdale Co. AL. The marriage record is there but I have not worked the census for the Waddels. The only reason I can figure that Joseph and Catherine's children were in the Waddel household is that Joseph's second wife was expecting her first child and Margaret Waddel was helping her out. Joseph and Louisa Margaret Emma Smith were married in Dec 1849, and John Travis Massey was born in Nov 1850. Louisa was only 20 years old at the time. Joseph was a licensed Deacon in the Methodist Episcopal Church and served different congregations in AL, MS, and LA. I have information from a cousin who said he was told that Joseph was buried on a ranch in Lampasses County. I have not been able to confirm this. Louisa Margaret was buried in San Saba County, TX with a sandstone marker now worn away so it would be difficult to find her grave. I do not know where Catherine Ray Massey is buried but it would make sense if she was in Attala Co. MS. More about this family is online in WorldConnect, database: barjeanm Barbara Massey Ferrell
