The following completes my notes regarding the Masseys of Muscogee Co., GA My first thought regarding the Eli Massey born 1794/4 in SC by the 1850 Muscogee Co. and 1790-1800 in Muscogee 1840] was that he might be Eli5 [Pettipool4, William3, Richard2 Massey.] This appears to be unlikely. Very little is known about this son of Pettypool. Judge Massey thought he was born about 1775. He was left 600 acres of Franklin Co., NC land [several different tracts] in Pettipool's 1794 will but no account can be made of the disposition of all of this part of Eli's land nor of Eli's residence after 1814. The last appearance I've found of this Eli was in an 1814 Franklin Co., NC deed [not recorded until 1819] where Eli was one of 13 grantors on a single tract of Pettipool's land. The Eli Massey in 1840 Gwinnett Co., GA and the one in 1830 in Fairfield Co., SC is shown as born 1780-90 -- slightly older than the Eli in 1840 and 1850 Muscogee Co. and apparently a different person, and both different from Pettipool's son. .
