    1. [MASSEY-L] Eli Massey, son of Pettipool and Celia
    2. Carla Tate
    3. The above Eli Massey who married in Catherine Bolton 1807 and was probably born about 1783 in Wake or Franklin Counties, NC was still on the Franklin Co. NC tax lists in 1811. He should have been on the Franklin Co. 1810 census, but is not listed in the index. I am going to go person by person and check the entire census. Catherine's father died in 1813, and I believe that this Eli was the one that is on the 1820 Fairfield Co. SC census showing 3 sons and 1 daughter. They are still there in 1830, but only William (a son?) shows up on the 1840 index (per Judge Massey's books). In 1850 there is an Eli living with daughter Rainey (Roena?) in Paulding Co. GA; Catherine is not with them so may be dead already. I am not sure where they were in 1840. To complicate things more, Catherine may have had a maternal grandparent that was a Massey. I have long suspected a connection to William Massey of Wake Co., but cannot prove it because of the scarcity of records about this William. Catherine's brother Sherwood paid Lydia Massey's (Eli's sister) taxes for her for years; Pettipool's land was next door to James and Sarah Boulton's (Catherine's parents). Some of Eli's brothers had already gone to SC, but were in different counties from Fairfield. Catherine's younger sister Dianah married Reddick Massey, son of Frederick Massey and Millie Chamblee. Catherine's niece Thanie Bolton married Elijah Massey, son of Hezekiah. They moved to Alabama where they died. Reddick and Dianah moved to Georgia, I believe after Dianah's and Catherine's mother died around 1826. Any info on the above people, particularly Eli and Catherine, would be appreciated.
