Hello everyone, I have just joined this mailing list as I am tracing my MASSEY ancestors, and have been doing for about six years now. The MASSEYs have lived in the village of Newhall in South Derbyshire, for around the last 165 years. My earliest ancestors found are William MASSEY and Mary THOMAS, they married on 28th December 1835 at St Peter's Church, Stapenhill, Derbyshire and lived in the village of Newhall for the rest of their lives. Their children's names were (in order), Thomas, Robert, William, Joseph, (my gg-grandfather), Benjamin, Fanny and Mary. The first three children died young. I cannot get past William, on the censuses for Newhall his ages differ by upto 15 years and his place of birth was Colton/Coulton in Staffordshire or Leicestershire. Looking at the parish registers for Colton in Staffordshire (near Rugeley), there are two William MASSEYs christened, 1805, parents Thomas and Hannah (nee Sellitoe) and 1812, parents Thomas and Margaret (nee MASSEY). William was 61 (according to the burial entry) in 1875 making him born in 1814, however on the 1871 census he was 63, making him born 1808. This is where my problem lies. I have a website for my ancestors at (http://www.masseyfamilytree.freeservers.com) if anyone would like to find out more. I can be emailed at ([email protected]) Emma Massey
