Author: robm06 Surnames: Massey, Gann, Stennett, Young Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.massey/2716/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello! My name is Robert Massey and I'm currently in Marietta, MS. I'm 21 years old and I've just started on this project to trace my family back as much as I can. Using some old documents my grandparents had I was able to find information about 5 generations back, so far. However I've stumbled on a bump and mostly I'm looking to see if anyone that has more experience at this than me could point me towards another source. Most of my relatives lived around here in Marietta, MS for some time. There doesn't seem to be a lot of information available about them except for Census reports that list them on here. Thank you, Robert Massey Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. I want to share this with the group. A most interesting list! It includes only DNA testors associated with the Cumberland Gap area. Inclusion in this list by FTDNA testors is voluntary. I don't know of any other Masseys that have been associated with that area. Two of my grandchildren are distantly related to Daniel Boone who settled in that area, and, interestingly, there are two Boones in the list. However, after reading Eleonore's recent post, I see I also missed the two Masseys in the list that she had found: -104964 Harrison Massey in Eleonore's UNMATCHED GROUP [Haplogroup R1b1b2a1b] [I need to look at that one again! Eleonore's Group 1- the one that includes Dewey's and my [matrilineal line] is R1b1b2 . Either (1) the SNPs that would allow us to extend our Haplogroup description that far are not offered and/or (2) none of the testors have tested for them. ] [This is not as complicated as it sounds!] -72440 Samuel P. Massey in Eleonore's Group 12 [Haplogroup I1] [FWIW, my SMITH Haplogroup is also I1!] Theron Smith 6-great grandson of Richard2 Massey and Ann Pettipool. This Richard2 appears to be most likely an ancestral patrilineal uncle of Dewey's the Marsee in the Cumberland Gap. These Marsees appears to be from one of Richard's brothers - either from Hezekiah2 or Joseph2, or maybe from another brother or a close cousin who came directly from England and never lived around "my" Masseys in VA, NC, and SC. But Dewey's family have strong traditions of being from SC, and, from the 37/37 DNA matches, our Masseys and Dewey's Marsees are definitely of the same patrilineal Masseys. ----- Original Message ----- dewey wrote via private Email: Sent: Sunday, March 01, 2009 10:48 AM Subject: Cumberland Gap Group "Seens strange that I am the only Marsee, line 1515, in this list, and no Massey?" https://www.familytreedna.com/ftGroups_score_frame_classic.aspx?pass=K%2f%2fNISR%2bXyBvnbXkIjqCFefM6Ma2nXS01tkG0Iak5PURMftastABJRltynkXrpkiBq4vEoJbOJ6Odx7hi8nczK8MLXfGMapt6GnLm0dwILLnGzqTlAP%2bjEq5ZFgJKqkefwdP2bTjZRA%3d http://historical-melungeons.blogspot.com/2008/10/cumberland-gap-national-historical-park.html >
