>From another genealogy list: Genealogy Alert: Geocities to close this year You may have heard that Geocities will be closing down later this year (2009). There are many genealogy sites on Geocities, and sadly, many of these sites may be lost if the webmasters don't move the sites to a new location. Yahoo is not notifying anyone about this by e-mail and many webmasters have not updated their sites in years, so--more likely than not--are not even aware the pages they have posted will be lost. You or someone you know may have genealogy information posted on a Geocities site. USGenWeb & Rootsweb also have had links to Geocities sites. Please help spread the word so genealogy websites won't be lost. http://ancestorsearch.blogspot.com/2009/04/my-genealogy-site-is-on-geocities -now_29.html http://ancestorsearch.blogspot.com/2009/05/my-genealogy-site-is-on-geocities -now.html http://ancestorsearch.blogspot.com/2009/05/my-genealogy-site-is-on-geocities -now_05.html ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to GALAMAR-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

For JohnMassey55: Irish civil registration of births began in 1867. If you look on the Family Search (LDS) pilot site, you can look for him. Here's the link. There are several William and William J Masseys but this might be a good start, especially if you have any census records that record his place of birth. http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#givenName=william%20j;birthYear=1876;searchId=73682828491805500000;searchType=fuzzy;surname=massey;birthPlace=Ireland%2C%20Ireland;birthPlaceId=2559150;p=recordResults

Author: weathermant217 Surnames: Massey Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.massey/2878/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Looking for help with the family of William Calvin Massey. I found the death record of Carl Massey from Dade county Florida on the new family search pilot site. It lists his parents as Beatrice and William Calvin Massey. In the 1910 census (Jamestown, Chattahoochee co. Ga) Carl's father is listed as Will L. Massey (birth circa 1884) so I wondering if this record might be in error and that William Calvin Massey might be his grandfather and not his father. I have also found a death record for William L. Massey. whose father was W. C. Massey. William L Massey is listed as age about 45 (circa 1880) and his death date is listed as 06 Jan 1925 in Augusta GA. We have a Sparrow-Massey connection that occurred in South Carolina (Spartanburg, we think). Charles Martin Sparrow born @ 1811, son of Thomas Sparrow, married Sarah or Sallie Massey About 1837. They moved to Monroe County, Miss, about 1838 with a bunch of the family and then about 1860 to Lafayette County, Arkansas, where they died but family still live there. We have often wondered if this family of either Masseys or Sparrows were related to your Massey/Sparrow connection and how.If it is positive then we may be able to clear up a question or two.
