Author: DCB_NWH Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.massey/1701.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Dave, I have not been able to link up all of the Masseys, but this is what I have: - My wife's ancestor was Elizabeth Massey Varnham, baptised in Coleorton in 1817, daughter of John Varnham and Mary Massey, born c1789. Elizabeth's sister, Grace, was baptised in a Methodist church in 1827 and her mother is described as the daughter of Joseph Massey and Mary. In Breedon churchyard there are six graves of a Massey family of Griffydam: - 1. Joseph Massey, d 1805 age 78, wife his wife, Ann, d 1786. Ann is described as the daughter of Samuel Bonsor and Jane. 2. John Massey, the son of Joseph and Ann, d 1798, age 53. 3. Thomas Massey, the son of Joseph and Ann, d 1791, age 22. 4. Mary Mee, daughter of Joseph Massey and Ann, d 1837, age 80. 5. Joseph Massey, d 1818, age 67. 6. Elizabeth Wheatley, the daughter of Joseph and Ann Massey, d 1796, age 30. There is an Elizabeth Massey, baptised in Worthington in 1795, who could be the sister on Mary, and I was wondering if John, b c1800, could be their brother. John Varnham was the son of Thomas Varnham and Rebecca Bonsor, who might be related to Jane, the wife of Joseph Massey. John Varnham's sister, Hannah, married William Stenson of Coleorton. There are several graves in Coleorton churchyard but the spelling is always Stinson. There are also some later Stinson graves in Swannington. I have pictures of all of the graves, which I can email to you, if of interest. I also have access to a tree which has the family of Thomas Massey, the son of John and Ann Stinson. My wife's ancestor was also a Joseph Massey, born c1760, who married Mary (surname not known. They lived in the Worthington area but may have come from Coleorton, Griffydam or Breedon. She is also related to some Stensons/Stinsons. I noticed that Ann Stinson married John Massey in Breedon and they seem to be the only people who had a son called Joseph. In Breedon churchyard, there are several graves of the Massey family of Griffydam. Two are Josephs, who could be father and son. One died in 1805 and one in 1818. The second could be my wife's ancestor. I have pictures of the graves and some of the Stinson family in Coleorton. Please let me know if this is of interest. I maybe able to put you in touch with someone, who has done considerable research into some of the MASSEY`S of Lincolnshire, dating back to the 1700s or there abouts. I am not aware of any Massey`s emigrating or becoming Quakers, but it is quite possible that some of our early ancestors may have done so. MO Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.massey/2894/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Mamie Ida Massey, daughter of John Oliver Massey and Rhoda Ellen Williams. She married Clarence Luke Hough, son of Noah Sanford Hough and Elizabeth Adelyn Kincheloe of Laclede County, MO. They had a daughter out of wedlock whom they put up for adoption before they married. She was born on 22 June 1923 in St. Louis, Mo. The daughter, Elfreda June, finally found her parents' graves after 80 years of searching...too late but found them. Both her parents wanted desparately to find her but to no avail before their own demise. One living person remembers her father saying it was the worse mistake of their young lives. A son, Robert Neal was born 20 Feb 1926, the only other child. He too, died before June could find him. Any other relatives? There was an Oscar Massey with me. He was a bit older then me (I was 18) and had been an Atlanta Firefighter until recieving a draft notice that caused him to quickly join the Air Force. We would have finished our term on Feb, 3, 1967. Oscar was real character and after all these years one of the few people whose name I remember. I would love to find him again.
