Hi everyone, I'm just now getting back to active research after a few years break and am especially interested in picking up my Masseys' trail again. I'm descended from Richard Massey and Winney Chamblee of Wake County, NC and Patrick County, VA circa late 18th/early 19th centuries, via their son Obediah and his first wife Nancy Bryant (married in 1813 in Patrick County). Obediah and Nancy's daughter Mary "Polly" Massey and John Stone (married in 1838 in Franklin County, VA) are my third great grandparents. However, I may also be descended from Richard and Winney's eldest son Warren Massey and Susannah Bartlett (married 1803 Patrick County). I have undocumented information that my ancestor Nancy Massey (married John Bryant, Sr in 1829 in Rockingham County, NC) was their daughter, but as yet I can't find anything concrete to prove or disprove this. Nancy died by 1838 and in 1850 John Bryant was living in Patrick County with his second wife and family as an immediate neighbor to Warren and Susannah's son James Addison Massey and his family. This could just be a coincidence, but it is the closest thing thing I have to a lead at this point. Can anyone tell me all the names and dates of Warren and Susannah Bartlett's children? I would be enormously grateful for any help anyone may be able to give me here, and will be glad to reciprocate in any way I possibly can. Best regards, Rebecca Olenchak

I have located him on the 1860 (4 years old) census with mother Eva [Shaver], brothers William and Columbus, and sisters Nancy and Sintha (Cynthia) Massey but all other forums I find list all other siblings except for Taylor. He is the youngest of the siblings and relocated to Arkansas where he married Ellen Phelps. Does anybody know of any other information that may show him as a child of Pleasant and Eve Massey? Massey was the father of John Hiram Massey, who was the father of William Hiram Dawson Massey, who was the father of Oscar Lovic Massey, who was the father of O.L. Massey, who was the father of Norman Gene Massey, who is my father , then that would be the connection. <snip> Beyond Eli M. and John W., my information is 'sketchy' at best. I have their father listed as Josiah from South Carolina and their mother as Mary from Ireland. I have a few names and bits of information after Josiah and supposedly beginning in America with John Massey b.1616 in Ely (Cambridge) arriving in Fort Henry, Virginia in 1636 and marrying Frances Bobbitt. I've been unable to make the connection for myself from this John Massey (b.1616) to Josiah Massey (b.abt1775) , and so I hoped if this branch > was also part of your tree, you would already have some of this 1600 and > 1700 information. -------------------- Every year or so, I get the urge to to try again to find the earlier ancestry of Eli, Josiah, et al, but I never suceed! They are probaby from Richard Massey and Ann Pettipool of Brunswick Co,. VA [who are my proven ancestors on a maternal Massey line] but in any event we do not have the earlier ancestors of Eli, Josiah, et al. Someone on your line needs to do the Y-chromosome DNA test. This would determine of you are from the same Massey line as Richard. We can be sure that neither you nor I are from John b. 1616 if indeed there was such a person. You can find noble and royal ancestry published for both Richard Massey and his wife, Ann Pettipool. Not all of my research colleagues agree with me, but from what I see, neither line has been validated with adequate documentation to be used in a proven genealogy. Tim, I'm coping your email to a MASSEY and Muscogee county list as there are some who may be in your line and could give you better info. List, This line was located in Columbus, Muscogee County. GA. You will need to CC Tim as he's not a member of this list. kemis From: Tim Massey [mailto:massey6@yahoo.com] Mrs. Kemis Massey, My name is Tim Massey. I've seen your name come up several times while searching for genealogic records, And I think you may have met my wife, Ronda, at J & J pharmacy.. Anyway, I'm writing to you now about an obituary and comment you posted for James Walton Massey, brother of S. Columbus Massey. Admittedly, my information seems to be incomplete, often unconfirmed and sometimes contradictory, but I believe I may have found a connection between us. If your husband's grandfather was S. Columbus Massey, son of John C.C. Massey, who was the son of James W.(Wesly) Massey, who was the brother of Eli M. Massey; And if Eli M. Massey was the father of John Hiram Massey, who was the father of William Hiram Dawson Massey, who was the father of Oscar Lovic Massey, who was the father of O.L. Massey, who was the father of Norman Gene Massey, who is my father , then that would be the connection. If I sound new to this, its because I am. Which is why I was hoping you could lend me your expertise. Beyond Eli M. and John W., my information is 'sketchy' at best. I've been unable to make the connection for myself from this John Massey (b.1616) to Josiah Massey (b.abt1775) , and so I hoped if this branch was also part of your tree, you would already have some of this 1600 and 1700 information. Thanks again, even if you are unable to help. Maybe I'll be able to help you with something some time.
