Hi all, Does anyone have in their family the following Massey's: Adaline W. Massey b:21 Aug. 1825 d: 11 March 1901. She married a Mayfield. Amanda E. Massey b: March 1835 KY d: 17 June 1907 in KY. She married Henry Granville Higdon. Elizabeth Francis Massey b: 14 April 1843 in KY d: 1897. She married a George Kinkle or Kunkle 9 May 1866 in KY. I think they may have been sisters and the father's name may have been John Massey from VA. Any help would be appreciated. Camille
As to the address for Massey Holdings, Go to the GenForum website GenForum or to the search engine in Rootsweb mailing lists. I believe that there listings both places for the e-mail address for Judge Massey's son. Also a snail mail address. I used to have this, but can't find right now. My books have the old address from 1980. Barbara Ferrell http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=barjeanm
About six weeks ago there was several postings about William Massey son of the late Judge Frank Massey of Ft. Worth, Texas who had reprinted the three books of his late father. I contacted him, ordered them and sent a $100.00 dollar check. I have not received the books. My check has cleared the bank, (June 26th) but no books have arrived. I have misplaced the name and telephone number and address for William Massey. The check was endorsed "Massey Holdings", does anyone know of this information. I do not believe that I am a victim of fraud. I simply feel that something has happened to the shipment. I would appreciate anyone's help. I truly want the books. Ron Massey

IGI Records show that Una Carter married Amaziah Vardeman in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana in 1815. She was 22 year old. They apparently later moved North to Mississippi, as this is where their daughters were born. I believe Amaziah and Una lived in Pike County, MS at the time of the 1820 census. This agrees to the microfilm. They had three daughters, Mary Etta "Polly" b ca 1820, Ann b ca 1824, Jemimah Amazia b ca 1825. Am. Vardemon (Indexed as Vardemore) The household composition is shown as 1 male 16-26 and one male 26 to 45 1 female under 10, one female 26 to 45 Neither Am. or Una Vardeman (any spelling) can be located in the 1830 census index. I haven't yet read the actual microfilm. It appears that sometime before the 1840 Pike County, MS, Census, Una is remarried to a Mr. MASSEY. UNY MASSY can be found in Pike County, Mississippi in 1840 (Microfilm #704). Ronald Vern Jackson's index to this census references Massey, Urey* page 152. It appears that the reference should have been to pg 297, which is what is actually stamped at the top of the microfilm as a guide. The census listing indicates it was a household made up entirely of females. There was one female between the ages of 10-15, two between ages 15 and 20, one between 20 and 30, and one between 40 and 50. Living with them as well was a female slave, who was somewhere between 26 and 56 years of age. It appears that Una might have actually had four daughters, and not just the three currently listed. Una's oldest known daughter, Polly, became 20 years old in 1840. Her youngest known daughter, Jemimah, reached age 15 the same year. This means that either of them might have been classified into two age categories. Therefore gauging the age of a fourth daughter is especially difficult. She could have been born prior to Polly, or after Jemimah. She might even have been a daughter by Una's second husband, Mr. Massey. She also might have been a cousin or niece. There is, however, an A. Vardeman in Adams County, Mississippi in 1840, on page 31. This microfilm should be examined as well. It is most likely a different person entirely. However, it might be that he and Una divorced, and that he moved to Adams County without her. At the time of the 1850 Sabine Parish Louisiana, Una was living alone in dwelling #304, between her daughters Jemimah Amazia Vardeman White and Ann Vardeman White. She is listed in the transcription of the Sabine Parish census prepared by Kathy Casagranda as Unas Massa age 57, M (sic), born in Louisiana. On the 1860 Sabine County Census, she is living with her daughter Jimimah, and son in law John Reagan White (Household 118). This is next door to Henry Strickland White and his wife Mary Etta Vardeman. On that transcription, she is shown as Una Massa, age 66, F, born North Carolina. Per the book 1860 CENSUS OF SABINE COUNTY, TEXAS WITH CIVIL WAR RECORDS by Helen Gomer Schluter, her last name was actually Massey. Does anyone which Massey she may have married? Or who a fourth daughter might be?

I am a recent subscriber because I have just begun to work on the family of my gggrandmother Hester Massey. Born 1809 in Tennessee to Joshua Massey and Elizabeth Ellis. I know of two siblings, Hardy and Lewis. Married in 1826 in Lincoln County TN to Thomas Casstevens. His parents unknown but he had a grandfather in Surrey County NC. Their children Jasper M (1829), Lewis M (1831), Sarah (1832), John P (1836), Thomas B (1838), Matilda C (1841) and Joshua W (1844) born in Lincoln County TN. Two more Elizabeth (1847) and Nancy F (1850) born in Cumberland County IL. Thomas died in 1852 and Hester married William Langston of Coles County IL in 1855. About 1858 they moved most of their combined families to Texas, to a part of Ellis County that is now in Johnson County. Langston died in 1859 and Hester in 1884. For now I am looking for clues to Hester's siblings and her father's mother. LBWithers

I sent this particular letter to some friends so they could get the handwriting site. This was one person's response to this statement. Has any Massey researcher ever found an Avery Massey in the 1820 or 1820 census, probably the SE United States? The AL 1820 census is mostly destroyed with only a few counties surviving. I think he might have been in AL, or dead in 1820. Last record I can find is the 1810 census of Buncombe Co. NC, and a few court records in Asheville. Avery lost his land there because he couldn't finish paying for it. I would like to prove or disprove the possibility of Avery being the father of my Joseph Massey born 1808, (Buncombe Co. NC?). Joseph appeared to have a brother named Job Massey who was in Fayette County, AL, 1830 with Joseph, and moved to Attala County, MS before 1840, as did Joseph. Because of naming patterns, Job is believed to be the son of this Avery Massey who had 3 sons in the 1810 census of Buncombe Co. NC. Any help with Avery Massey is greatly appreciated. For more information on Joseph, my file is online in WorldConnect with the database = barjeanm. Barbara Ferrell http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=barjeanm
