Not only virus but smut (explicit) plus ads for loans, mortages and anything else they want to send. Looks like Roots web would try to protect the Lists better. I may get 10 of this kind of mail to one list email. Seems like someone is using lists for their own business. I've received two of these messages which have something in the subject line that pertains to recent genealogical emails I've recently sent. One even included an unusual given name I had written about in an email to my niece the day before. Both purportedly had information to be downloaded which I foolishly tried to download when the first came through. Norton's caught it and told me it was infected before it could download and it was isolated. DJ
this isn't really the place to say much, but since I have received about 8 e-mails with an infected attachment, I have to add to Theron's note. The return addresses have all been familiar to me, but they have an underscore (_) in front of the address. Someone is really working the genealogy lists! With resepct to several Rootsweb lists I subscribe to (COLEMAN, MASSEY, SHARP. WADE), someone's virus is randomly selecting messages from other subscribers from their hard drive - messages which I or others had previously posted to these lists - and sent a reply to me. The infected file did not go to any of these lists, so can't be picked up from the lists. The infection is in an attachment that genenerally has a pif extension and unusual subject (e.g.., Hamster.com or something about a fat man.) I didn't open any of the attachments I got and don't even know the name of the virus. So, as always, but espeically now, be very cautious of opening any Attachment that looks suspicious. If it's a .txt attachment, it's ok, but pif or exe can be dangerous. Regards, Theron Smith.

Eleanor wrote: <<I have a question, to make sure I have it right: the parents of your RICHARD MASSEY married to Ann Pettipool, and my JOSEPH MASSEY,born 1690, married to Elizabeth Washington Lanier,is a RICHARD MASSEY?>> Yes! This is the connection according to William Massey's MASSEY GENEALOGY 2000. However, neither this book nor any other reference cites any source for placing his 2d wife Elizabeth as Elizabeth Washington Lanier. One would need to order his book or review it in a library, then go through his entire arguments critically to decide if they accept the case he makes for Richard (1) b. 13 Aug. 1661of Puddington, Cheshire, England; d. sometime after 1700 in Charles City Co., VA being our emigrant ancestor. This Richard (1) is shown as the father of Hezekiah(2), Joseph(2), and Richard(3), the same three brothers ascribed [almost certainly incorrectly - see my posts in the Rootweb archives] by Judge Massey to "John Jr" alleged son of the immigrant John Mace/Marsey of 1636. Hezekiah(2) 1m. ---- ----, 2m. Elizabeth ----; Joseph(2) im. ---- ----, 2m. Elizabeth ----; Richard(2) m. Ann Pettipool (my ancestors.) In the new nen book, Richard(1) is shown as son of Edward Massey and Alice Brathwayt; grandson of Sir William Massey and Catherine Herbert; g gs of John Massey, Esq. and Elizabeth Aston; etc. back to old Hamon de Mascy (born prob. abt.1040.) From the three wives listed (Alice Brathwayt, Catherine Howard, and Elizabeth Aston) , 6 descents from King Edward I are shown in the book. Best regards, Theron Smith.

There will be a list of people in the workhouse at the date of the 1881 Census (on the Census CDrom if you have it). Otherwise you will have to hope that the workhouse records survive, on which I can not give any information. As for the father, if not on the certificate, you have little hope of finding any further information unless it is mentioned in any baptism record. So far, I am not involved in Shropshire Masseys, but there were a lot of them. For more Massey information see my web page http://www.geocities.com/donaldmasseyuk/masseymore.html Donald Massey ----- Original Message ----- > "My grandfather was John Massey who lived in Glebe Street Wellington > Shropshire.
