Bill is a very distant cousin of mine (something like 8th) and we do have an account done by a reputable medieval scholar showing a resonable account of our lineage going to back to the first Hamon in England. I ackowledge that the chain could be invalidated at any number of points between us and Hamon. BUT, the other consideration is that there is a very high probability that all Caucasians and maybe everyone are at least 15th cousins and very likely ALL of us are descended from the first Hamon - even more certain is that we're all descended from William the Conqueror - doesn't matter whether we can trace it or not. I can trace my wife to William the Conquoror, but not myself, but I'm rather certain he is an (undocumented) ancestor of mine also.. Whether I have any genes belonging to either William or Hamon is a totally different proposition! Best regards to all, Theron Smith (I almost signed as Theron Massey - my grandmother was a Massey.)

    3. I hope people do not assume that all Masseys were/are descended from dear old Hamon. A little thought will show that this is most unlikely: there are several possible sources of the name, and more than one could be correct. Unless he was the first to bear the surname, or was the only son of the first person to bear it, there could be others who crossed the channel/Atlantic at other times. 3. This posting is mainly to find relatives of the family I have listed below. Since I have not found any records, I think that someone will recognize some names and respond. I am posting to other lists as well. My father THOMAS PATRICK MASSEY was b in 1882 Almonte Ontario Canada. That is what he said. I can find no record of him or his family. This is what he told me about 40 years ago: His father THOMAS WILLIAM MASSEY last known to have lived in Almonte about 1880 - 1900. His mother ELLEN PURTELE (PURTELL - PURTILL)? His brothers FRED - WILLIAM - ALBERT - WALTER - HERBERT His sisters LOUISE - FLORENCE No dates - no second names - no religion - no place. My father died in 1975 and recently I got his death registration and it states: He was b Ontario, Canada His father THOMAS MASSEY b Ireland His mother Helen McDOUGAL b Ontario I think his mother died when he was quite young and he left home at an early age. It seems to me that his father remarried unknown to him as there was no family contact after he left except for a picture of him and his brother Walter taken at a Studio in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada about 1905. Walter was leaving for Australia while working on an ocean vessel where he planned to stay. Herbert was thought to be working on a Great Lake Vessel I have searched the BMD of Ontario with no success. I have history books of Masseys and made notes of the Massey Machinery CO Masseys back to Geofrey. The books I have are of Daniel Massey and Angeline Haynes before 1806. I believe the only way I will ever find anything is to find descendants of the uncles I mentioned above. There must be someone who can relate to them. I am also aware that they could have moved somewhere between Ontario and Qubec in Canada to New York state and Vermont. I have done a lot of searching and spent a fair amount. I hope that some Massey sees this and recognizes someone. Thanks for reading this far. Daniel Patrick Massey Manitoba Canada

    3. Hallo fellow listers - my name is Kerry Barter and I live in Southport, in Queensland, Australia. I am endeavouring to add another branch to my family tree and am seeking the assistance of fellow listers. The information I have at the moment is very sketchy: John MASSEY (b cir 1839) married Margaret RYAN (b cir 1837 from Ireland) Children are as follows: Thomas Francis MASSEY (b cir 1878) Ellen MASSEY (b cir 1865) Margaret MASSEY (dcd) Anne MASSEY (b cir 1868) William MASSEY (b cir 1870) Margaret MASSEY (B CIR) 1871) I do know that Thomas Francis MASSEY came to Queensland, Australia where he married Ellen Maud GOODMAN (b cir 1879) I have been told that a Thomas MASSEY left London on board the SUFFOLK on the 20th May 1874 and arrived in Rockhampton, Queensland on the 14th November 1874. His age is listed as 19 years. I am afraid that that is all the information I have at this point in time. I have checked the 1881 British Census for the family but have had not luck in finding a John and Margaret MASSEY plus children. Any assistance would be most gratefully appreciated. Sincerely, Kerry Barter
