Hi all, I have begun to rethink my search for John HOLLAND Massey. I am almost covenced now that my Great Grandfathers' middle name was not HOLLAND, it may be Homer or most any other name but I am really doubting the HOLLAND. His father in law was Berry Holland Burney so I just think as my Grandfather grew up he was told he was named after his ancestor and came to believe it was his father, so when filing for his SSN he wrote in the HOLLAND as a Middle name for father, as well as his own name. Does thid sound too far fetched? Well, I am still at square one in my search. Anna
Hi, looking for the parents of MARY ELIZABETH MASSEY born 1836 in NC, died after 1870 in Titus,TX, married to ANDREW JACKSON HILTON; thanks for checking, Eleonore
I am trying to trace the above, my great uncle, after 1901. I believe he is the M Massey shown in the 1901 census at Llandudno on RG13/5289 F101 p81, the birthplace, occupation (nurseryman) and age are certainly correct, and I can see no other likely entry in the index for him. He witnessed the marriage of his brother George in Warwickshire in 1909, but after that no likely marriage or death entry can be found. Donald Massey
My great aunt above was at Castle Howard as a live-in dressmaker in the 1901 census. I think she probably married locally, as I remember my father many years ago talking of visiting an aunt in Yorkshire and the meals which were served, particularly serving Yorkshire pudding as a separate first course. I can not find a likely marriage or death for many years afterwards, has anyone spotted her? Donald Massey

Does anyone on the list have information on Aquilla Massey's daughter Mary? This is the Aquilla of MD in early 1700s. Was he a Quaker--and if so, what meeting? Thanks Pat Johnson
Gee! My brain said one thing, but my fingers wrote another! It was NINETEEN-18 and NINETEEN-19 when the flu pandemic happened (see earlier msg. below). Glad my typo was caught so I could make this correction! C. I don't know what that means. 1818 - 1819 was written at first, so why "of course!"? I was trying to clarify a typo for everyone's benefit. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carolyn Vosburg" <[email protected]> To: "Larry and Elaine Blackman" <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, February 01, 2005 2:41 PM Subject: Re: [MASSEY-L] Epidemics in the US, cont. > > On Feb 1, 2005, at 12:03 PM, Larry and Elaine Blackman wrote: > > > 1918 - 1919? > > > Of course!!!! My grandfather died in the world-wide pandemic of 1818-1819 which wasn't listed on the website below. Notes for Joseph Peeple Griggs: Although no death certificate was located, it is known that there was an influenza pandemic in 1918-19 that claimed thousands of lives. It is believed to have been a type of swine flu; 20 million lives were lost world-wide, 675,000 in the United States alone. C. To Theron: Jasper Newton Young had 3 wives. His first, Margaret E. Massey, was in the family of Joseph Massey (1808 NC) and Catherine Ray. Margaret and Jasper married 1856 Leake Co. MS. They were living in Calcascieu Parish, LA in 1860. From about 1866 /1867 on, they were living in Polk Co. TX. Margaret died in Mar 1871. Jasper married Frances Peebles, and then Mary Ann McKey. I have not done the research on all the children, but several others have shared with me, so I do have a list of all the Young children including Emma. My grandfather George Montgomery Massey was a much younger 1/2 brother to Margaret Massey Young.
