    1. Masseys and Henrys
    2. Would be interested in hearing from any descendants of Masseys and Henrys who intermarried. My ggggrandparents were John and Mary Henry Massey from Lincoln Co., NC. They lived from around 1790 to the mid 1800s. They migrated to Giles County, Tennessee, around 1818. That part of Giles County later became Marshall County, Tennessee around 1871. Some of their cousins may have moved just over the county line into Lincoln County, Tennessee. There are Poarch descendants buried in the Diana Cemetery there. Any help would be appreciated. Sincerely, Bill Most sincerely, William R. (Bill) Massey of Lewisburg/Marshall County, Tennessee

    3. The 1880 census (on FamilySearch) for McNairy County, TN shows: Household: Doc MASSEY Self M Male W 29 VA Farmer (father born ENG) (mother born IRE) Sarah E. MASSEY Wife M Female W 20 TN Keeps House (father born TN) (mother born TN) Mary L. A. MASSEY Dau S Female W 2 TN (father born VA) (mother born TN) William H. MASSEY Son S Male W 6M TN (father born VA) (mother born TN) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Source Information: Census Place District 2, Mc Nairy, Tennessee Family History Library Film 1255268 NA Film Number T9-1268 Page Number 20C There are no Masseys in Henderson Co. TN on the 1900 census of an age to be either parent of John Ike Massey (as a head of household). John Ike Massey married about 1906, so I'm assuming he was born in the 1880's after the taking of the 1880 census. From this census we see Doc was born about 1851 in Virginia. Assuming he lived a normal lifespan, he would be old enough to die in TN after they probably started collecting death certificates. You should contact their state vital records office to see if they have a death certificate on him, but do not specify the county as you have no way of knowing what county he was living in. If he left the state, this of course will not work. I would also contact the county seat in McNairy County to obtain a copy of the marriage certificate as this will possibly give you additional info such as perhaps if he had another name besides Doc. There is an E.A. Ricketts family living in this county on the 1880 census with the father the right age to be Sarah's father, but apparently living with a much younger second wife and their children. I have been unable to find Doc on any census before 1880 or after. I suspect he had another name. I hope the above is helpful. Carla Tate

    3. Hi. I hit a brick wall on David Madison Massey (b. circa 1830, Hardin Co.) and have put the Massey's aside for the time being. I still monitor the list emails in case I can help others, or be helped along. David married Susan Emeline Venable one son, Thomas Wilburn m. Margaret Austin daughter, Hannah Emeline possibly married T. J. Surratt. The Surratt's lived next door to a Thomas and Sarah Massey in one census report, but the trail stops for me there. In 1860 census, Jane Massey (72 years old) lives by Thomas and Susan with a Pertinus Massey (38 years old). In 1850, a Louisa Massie lived with her who was possibly a "Bookout, or Booker." Jane may have been Enoch's wife, but I live in Michigan and don't travel much these days with work and all, so I can't pop in and research old records too easily. My theory is that whomever was married to that Jane Massey (from North Carolina) was David's father. My, parents: Marjorie Turman, Dale Chapman grands: Fred Turman, Lela Massey greats: John M. Turman, Annie Jones - Emory Massey, Callie Parsons In kinship, Denise Brown

    3. Hi all, Today my hubbie and I went to a flea market in Smiths (Lee County) AL. I purchased a book entitled Family Records Mississippi Revolutionary Soldiers by Alice Tracy Welsh Miss Society D.A.R. If you had family in Mississippi during the Revolutionary War time I'll be willing to do a look-up for you. Also in the book was a typed listing of the William WILLIAMS [b. 03 Mar 1770] and Dorathy TRAYNIUN [b 07 May 1778] children. At the of the list is handwritten Abbeville District of South Carolina. I can scan and forward a copy to interested parties. Chambers of Elkhart County Indiana was killed February 24, 1943, in the South Pacific during World War II. He is buried in the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. We are seeking information regarding his military and civilian life. I am a retired Hoosier from Madison County residing in the Philippines with my Filipino wife. We are seeking family and military information about servicemen from your county killed in the South Pacific during World War II. There are 17,206 Americans buried here and thousands more that are missing or buried at sea and are honored on the “Tablets of the Missing”. Please visit our website to see the beautiful memorial located in Manila, Philippines. http://fizkid.tripod.com/ My wife and I visited the cemetery as visitors and left with a mission in our heart. We have been taking photographs of the graves of the Indiana servicemen buried here and have been uniting them (at no charge) with their family members in Indiana and across the United States. To receive the photo of your family member, neighbor or friend all you need is a working email address. We do not send them to regular mailing addresses due to the costs. Please help us find the families of the men that might still be living. Our project is only successful because of teamwork and your contributions are noted on our website. If you wish to help us we will be pleased to add your name to our ACKNOWLEDGMENT page on the website. The obituaries usually did not appear till to three months after the death date. If you are not a genealogist you can help by just picking up the telephone directory and find someone with the same last name and give them a call. It has worked many times for us. 3. The following message from PACE-L also applies to our MASSEY DNA study.. So call Eleanor's site http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~mandaley/MasseyDNA.html> and click on form to order your DNA kit today! <grin> Regards to all, Theron ------- From: "Janders 45" To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, April 09, 2005 6:47 PM Subject: [PACE-L] Thoughts on the Pace DNA study I have only recently started following this list and I am especially interested in DNA results from descendants of the Paces who moved to Clarke Co, AL, in the first two decades of the 19th century. I am descended from one of those - William Pace, whose daughter Elizabeth married Wiley Etheridge. I hope that we can get DNA samples from several diverging lines of these Clarke Co Paces, as this well help me determine whether I am descended from Frederick Pace of Wales or not. The Pace DNA study has already yielded valuable results - we now know with a high degree of certainty that the John of Middlesex and Richard of North Carolina (Jamestown?) lines did not arise from the same immigrant to America or even from a recent common ancestor. Those who express skepticism about the validity and worth of the DNA study are exhibiting a universal human trait - the reluctance to accept without suspicion what we do not understand very well. I don't mean this as a put-down; we are all that way, just about different things sometimes. The science of molecular biology is very new and you would have to be pretty young to have studied it in school. I am a plant breeder by profession, a sort of applied geneticist who uses the sciences of genetics and statistics (and many other disciplines) to improve crop plants. This does not make me an expert in human genetics (my crop, corn, has no Y chromosome), but the basic principles of genetics apply to both corn and to humans. In my job at present, we are using tissue samples and molecular markers in the process of developing improved lines and hybrids. In the past decade, I have had to do some extensive self re-education as my graduate training was almost exclusively in classical genetics. For those who like to improve their understanding in this area, there are web-based learning resources out there. A good place to start is the Biology Hypertextbook from MIT, but a Google search will turn up many others if this one does not suit you: http://esg-www.mit.edu:8001/esgbio/701intro.html Here's another: http://www.rothamsted.bbsrc.ac.uk/notebook/courses/guide/dnast.htm> The science behind the Pace DNA study is sound. In some cases bit of art and a lot of skill is required on the part of the lab people in making the allele calls. Mistakes occur, but they are rare, and a re-sampling and/or a re-analysis can resolve those. Sorry - lecture over. I sure hope that we can turn up some more DNA samples to help us answer the Frederick Pace of Wales question.

    3. John H. born somewhere in Mississippi on Aug.1, 1856 Died Feb. 8, 1910 in Miller Co., Arkansas. Married I believe twice he had a total of ten children according to the two censuses I have found. 1900 Caddo Parish, Louisiana and 1910 after his death in Miller Co., Arkansas. There were six girls and four boys. His wife on the 1900 Census of Caddo Parish states she is 25 years of age and three of the daughters are too old to be her children. Anna
