    3. Hi May I ask if anyone can point me in the right direction to find out what happened to my 4x Grt grandfather, William MASON, after he arrived in America. In 1761 he was committed to be transported having been found guilt of theft at the Old Bailey, London. UK He may have been on the Maryland Packet Ship in September 1761 but cannot find anything else. I do not have a birth for him but in London he was a Cordwainer and he left behind a wife (Mary Ann born circa 1715) and a son George Henry. They had married in London 1746. I have all the English information for Mary Ann and George Henry, but have nothing on William. Mary Ann eventually remarried in 1781 and was described as a "widow". Many thanks Marg (NSW", Australia)

    3. Hello Marg, I don't have specific information, but will make a guess about the fate of you 4GGF, William MASON. If he was convicted and subsequently transported, his status in Maryland was probably like that of the less fortunate indentured servants -- most of whom did not survive the (typically, seven) years of their indentures. Likely, his contract would have been purchased by a wealthy planter and he would have been put to work clearing land for raising tobacco. -rt_/) > On March 7, 2019 at 5:44 PM Margaret <muntzmj@gmail.com> wrote: > Hi > May I ask if anyone can point me in the right direction to find out what > happened to my 4x Grt grandfather, William MASON, after he arrived in > America. > > In 1761 he was committed to be transported having been found guilt of theft > at the Old Bailey, London.
