I just loooove it when those brick walls come down! Received word from national archives today: Melissa G. Martin b. 1847 m. Charles Thaddeus Overstreet is definitely the daughter of William Hawkins Martin b. 1823-1824.Veteran of Civil War E. Company,11th Regiment Missouri Volunteer State Militia. This is the William H. Martin I have been looking for! Several documents in her hand and his detailing where they lived and when. Mostly in Missouri (Putnam Co., Sullivan Co. Wintersville) and Adams Co. Illinois. One document signed by John Thomas Overstreet, brother of Charles Thaddeus Overstreet and husband of Alice Marinda Martin. (The other brick wall!) Trying to find out if Alice and Melissa were sisters. I have in my files a William H. Martin born 5/28/1823 married to a Martha Amanda Mc Quown. (Possibly the mother of my Alice Miranda?) He was the son of Lewis Hiram Martin Sr. b 12/17/1791 Logan Kentucky. Lewis Hiram Martin was the son of John Martin and Isabella Martin. Can anyone confirm that these two Williams are the same? My records show William and Martha Amanda Martin had the following children. Lewis L. Henry E James S. Minerva A Mary E Charles T Where does Melissa G or Alice fit in? Previous marriage? or no connection? Wrong William H.? Any ideas? Glad to share any info for those who are interested. Margaret
