I have a James Martin born about 1786 in Va. His father is said to be Thomas Martin and the parents of Thomas are William Martin and Elizabeth Cook. James married Judith Moore on 4 Jan 1819 in Campbell Co. Va. The later moved to Butler Co. Ky. and James died there in 1838 while working on a Dam there. He drowned. James had brothers, Samuel, Thomas Jr., William and a sister Rachel. I have been told that the Martins originated in Scotland but Martin seems more like an Irish or English name to me.
