They rode it as far as Fort Worth and then by wagon on to Wise County. Their first winter in Texas was spent in a half dug out. He was first a Presbyterian minister and after studying the bible changed to the Methodist faith. He was a circuit rider for the Methodist Church and carried his Bible in his saddle bags.
