The person to make the rules has to be the list administrator, so just try to respect the rules she makes . Dear Joyce - My ancestor, John Bethune MARTIN, was born about 1791 in Moore Co., NC and had several children. Of those, Atlas Jones MARTIN who was born in 1820 in Moore Co., NC and died in Dallas Co., AL married Harriette SHIELDS, daughter of Elizabeth Paulling of Orangeburg, SC and John SHIELDS of Kershaw Co., SC, but born in Moore Co., NC. This SHIELDS family came to the Dallas, Perry. Autauga, Marengo, Wilcox county areas in Alabama and farmed. A William B. SHIELDS, believed to be the brother of my John also settled in the area. John B. MARTIN and his wife Nancy Hill Harris settled in Holly Springs, Marshall Co., MS by the 1840 census. Another of John B. MARTIN's children, Mary Bethune MARTIN, married first a Robert Dortch and second a James L. MEIGS, who was descended for Return Jonathon MEIGS. Holly Springs is right down the road from Memphis, TN. If any of my MARTIN, SHIELDS or MEIGS family sound familiar, please let me know. I have more info on them. Thanks!
