    3. Here's the story; hope someone can help us. We're stuck in Morgan County, OHIO. Andrew Martin (my great great great grandfather) and his wife Elizabeth. Andrew and Elizabeth were born in Maryland in about 1807. Andrew's parents were born in Maryland; Elizabeth's (surname unknown) were born in Virginia. Andrew settled in the Jackson Township, Morgan Co.(later Noble Co.) area, we think, about 1837. They had moved on before 1870 (to Illinois) as there were no Martin's in the area in the 1870 census. Our Andrew and at least some of the sons, James Henry (my great great grandfather), and Andrew J. (always known as Jack), had moved on to Illinois. Andrew Sr. to the Kendall County area. Jack and James Henry were both found in the Piatt County census with their families; James Henry (1870 census); Jack (1880 census). Andrew's other children were (that we can find): Samuel, William, Sarah (may have been married to WILLIAMS), Margaret (married to John Mincks/stayed in Ohio); Elizabeth, youngest son Charles W. died in infancy. Children of James Henry Martin and Emmaretta Jane Flickinger: Charles Elliot Martin b. 1868; Lydia Ann Martin Boylan b. 1869; George Edward Martin (my great grandfather) b. 1871; Cora Loretta Martin Estes b. 1877; Francis Andrew Martin b. 1882; Ernest Alvin Martin (I think he was called "Ginger") b. 1887. I descend from George Edward's daughter Winifred A. Martin. Any connections or leads would be appreciated.

    3. Your Andrew is listed in the 1850 Census as follows: 1850 Jackson Township, Morgan County, Ohio 870/880 Andrew Martin, 43, m, farmer, b Md Elizabeth, 10, f, b Md James, 8, m, b Ohio Samuel, 5, m, b Ohio Andrew, 4, m, b Ohio Charles W., 1, m, b Ohio Sarah, 18, f, b Ohio Margaret, 13, f, b Ohio William, 15, m, b Ohio Elizabeth, 10, f, b Ohio The above would seemingly indicate that Andrew's wife was deceased if age is correct. Image definitely shown as age 10. Also, children shown here may be from two different mothers because of the way they are listed. The 1860 Census is as follows: 1860 Jackson Township, Noble County, Ohio 433/415 Andrew Martin, 53, m, farmer, 4000, 500, b Md Elizabeth, 53, f, domestic, b Md James K., 18, m, farmer, b Ohio Samuel, 17, m, farmer, b Ohio Andrew J., 14, m, b Ohio There is a recording of a marriage of Andrew Martin to Eliza J. Beahey on 25 November 1834 in Frederick County, Maryland. You can find the ancestry of Elizabeth Beakey/Behe (married to Andrew Martin), daughter of Joseph and Catherine Beakey/Behe in the following Rootweb/Ancestry.com file: http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=lmr2&id=I00373 Likely parents of this Andrew Martin are (all in Frederick County): Christian Martin married 26 Sep 1807 to Magdalene Wilhite John Martin married 11 Aug 1806 to Catherine Shaneholtz Robert Martin married 12 Jan 1801 to Sarah Norris Jacob Martin married 28 Oct 1799 to Katherine Koontz John Martin married 20 Feb 1799 to Elizabeth Correll George Martin married 15 apr 1798 to Elizabeth David Peter Martin married 2 Jun 1796 to Lydia Ramey (living in Coshoctin County, Ohio in 1850) John Martin married 19 Sep 1795 to Peggy Rhinehart David Martin married 1 Dec 1789 to Catherine Reible Jacob Martin married 18 Jan 1783 to Elizabeth Tabler The following Martin's are listed in Frederick County in 1830 census records. Perhaps Andrew belongs to one of these: Henry Martin District 10, Frederick, Maryland John Martin District 10, Frederick, Maryland Jacob Martin District 11, Frederick, Maryland David Martin District 2, Frederick, Maryland Ann Maria Martin District 3, Frederick, Maryland John Martin District 3, Frederick, Maryland Catharine Martin District 5, Frederick, Maryland Jesse Martin District 5, Frederick, Maryland John Martin District 5, Frederick, Maryland John Martin District 5, Frederick, Maryland John Martin District 5, Frederick, Maryland Joseph Martin District 5, Frederick, Maryland William Martin District 5, Frederick, Maryland David Martin District 6, Frederick, Maryland Mary Martin District 6, Frederick, Maryland David Martin Frederick, Frederick, Maryland Jacob Martin Frederick, Frederick, Maryland John Martin Frederick, Frederick, Maryland Sophia Martin Frederick, Frederick, Maryland William Martin Frederick, Frederick, Maryland Isaac Martin Lewistown, Frederick, Maryland Jeremiah Martin Mechanicstown, Frederick, Maryland Catharine Martin Woodsboro, Frederick, Maryland George Martin Woodsboro, Frederick, Maryland Hope this helps... 3. Dear Michael, Yes, the 1850 census is incorrect on Andrew's wife, Elizabeth, being age 10. Thank you for the leads! And the marriage to Elizabeth Beahey is one we've not seen before. (By "we", my second cousin and I have been emailing/researching this branch together.) In fact, I wasn't having much luck in Maryland -- probably just not knowing where to look. How did you find that, Michael? Wow! I was wondering why the older children were placed second in the census. My grandmother showed only four children on her family group records: James Henry, Samuel, Jack and Margaret. Jack's son, ended up living very close to where my grandparents lived in CA. My grandmother had been corresponding with a descendent of Margaret. When I first saw the 1850 census, I got pretty excited knowing there were more children. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
