Hi Lilly and all other Martin researchers. I have a George W. Martin, born January 28, 1835 in Caldwell Co, KY whose granddaughter, Josie Lockie Martin died in Corsicana , Navarro Co., TX in 1957. Her father was Joseph Martin. Do you think that my George W. is the same as your George Westley Martin? If so, we share a common ancestor in Reuben Martin who was born in Woodbury, CT in 1746 (my ggggfather) and I have the family line back to Lt. Samuel Martin of Devonshire, England. abt. 1610. If this makes any sense, please reply. Russ Hanson
Hello Russ, If you go to Navarro Co TX in the 1880 census, (LDS site free), all the Martin houses are my relatives. This line came from Rockbridge Co NC to Henderson Co TN as of 1852, to Navarro Co TX as of 1878. If you can trace your Josie Lockie Martin back to anyone in the 1880 census in Navarro Co TX, then you are related to me. You don't say where your line was in 1880, so I can see any connection right now. George Wesley Martin who is shown in the 1880 census with wife Martha Virginia Cunningham, and children, is at Navarro Co TX near his mother, cousin and others all related to him. This same George Wesley Martin was born 1849 Rockingham Co NC, and is listed there with his mother anf ather in the 1850 census, along with an older sister named H. E. born 1848 Rockingham Co NC. It is thought that this Martin line is related to Bailey Martin b. 1796 , who lived all his life in Rockingham Co NC. Baily Martin's mother was Lydia Martin of Rockinham Co NC, and his brother was Michajah Martin, and I am 'guessing' his father was the earlier Bailey Martin listed there.
