    1. Thos. Herbert MARTIN, born c. 1896 Ark.
    2. I am posting my annual request for any information on my grandfather, Thomas Herbert Martin, b. around 1896 in Ark. My grandmother was MARIE LUCILLE GREER, b. 1903 Dexter, MO. The 1920 census shows her living with her parents in Pocohontas, Ark. which is most likely where they met. My only record of Thomas is on my mother's (PATRICIA MARIE MARTIN, b. 1922 Los Angeles, CA) birth certificate where it gives his address, age (26) and profession (druggist.) Marie is shown on the 1930 Tenn. census married to someone else. I would so much appreciate someone's help as I've reached the "brick wall" on him. Kathleen

    3. Preliminary Info: In 1920, Demun, Randolph Co., AR there is a Herbert Martin, b. about 1898 in AR, living by himself and listed as a Clerk in a Drug Store. There are several other Martins also in Demun, but only two are the right age to be his parents - Patrick (born in Ireland) and Annie (widowed). Pat and Annie are not a couple - they are separate households. Backtracking on Patrick and Annie in 1910 shows they are also in Demun in that year. Patrick has no son named Thomas or Herbert. But Annie (widowed in this year, too) does have a Herbert Martin, age 14, in her household who is listed as a nephew. There is also a Eula with them, age 16, listed as niece. Herbert and Eula are probably siblings. More later. Brenda See Brenda's Original Art and Photos! 3. More Info: Your Thomas Herbert Martin was born August 1895, probably in Denum or Current River, Randolph Co., AR. His father was James Martin, b. Feb 1863, probably in Randolph Co., AR. James' wife (and Thomas' mother) was a daughter of Fred Hill and Martha Ann Reynolds, but unfortunately, she was deceased by 1900 and I don't know which daughter. The widowed James and his two children, Thomas H. and Eula E. (b. Mar 1894) are living with Fred and Martha Hill in 1900 in Randolph Co., AR. Fred Hill had 4 kids - 3 daughters and 1 son, and only Kate is still in the home in that year. Martha Hill reports having 4 children but only 3 are living in that year, so it is probably James Martin's wife who has died. The other two known daughters are Bridget and Roxie. I don't know their dobs so can't guess which one was James' wife. I don't find a marriage record anywhere that matches. Here's a little info on Fred Hill and Martha Reynolds: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:277855 2&id=I559255668 Your James Martin is the son of James Martin, b. about 1807 in Virginia and Ellen C. Unknown. In 1850, James is married to Ellen C. Unknown, b. about 1828-1830 in Missouri, but Ellen is too young to be the mother of the two oldest kids in the home. I don't find a marriage record for this James to any wife whose name matches or where the dates seem to line up with the ages of the kids. This James might be the son of a James who was also in Randolph in that year, born about 1778 in VA. An LDS record for this man lists a wife as Isabell or Elizabeth Melton, but she is reported born in 1817, so even if this James is the right man, Isabell couldn't be the mother of the son James, b. 1807. In 1850 and 1860, James and Ellen are in Randolph Co., AR. By 1870, Ellen is widowed, but still in Randolph. Children of James, b. 1807 are: James F., 1836 AR (from first wife) Joseph C., 1838 AR (from first wife) Ellen J., 1845 AR (dau of Ellen as are all others) Henry, 1849 AR Thomas P., 1847 AR (not listed in 1850) Mary A., 1852 AR Andrew W., 1854 AR William, 1856 AR Robert, 1859 AR John T., 1861 AR James, 1863 AR (Yes, another James). The Annie who your Thomas Herbert was living with in 1910, was the wife of Joseph Martin. Ellen's maiden name might be Wight or Wright or Brown. In 1850, there are two young females (ages 19 and 24) in the home with Ellen and James, and both are born in Missouri - same as Ellen. The younger one is listed as a Wight and the older one as a Brown. These women might be sisters to Ellen but you can't tell on that record if one of them is widowed or married. Hope this helps!!
