    1. Re: [MARTIN] MARTIN Digest, Vol 2, Issue 33
    2. Maggie, I am researching this family...............could you provide a list of John Martin and Isabelle Scott Martin's children. Also, have you found any information about siblings or family members of Isabelle Scott Martin. I have always thought William Harvey Martin (1784-1852) was the son of John and Isabella, although I am not a direct descendant of him so have not researched him as much as other descendants of John and Isabella. I note that someone has posted William Hawkins Martin as being the son of William Harvey Martin (One World Tree). The William Harvey Martin in my tree, 1784 to 1852 would have been dead before the Civil War started. But, his children were born c. 1820. What are the names of William Hawkins Martin's siblings and parents in the correspondence you reference. Thanks. Jan Lowe Minneapolis In a message dated 2/5/2007 6:19:57 A.M. Someone on this board does have your William Harvey Martin, but he is NOT the son of John Martin and Isabell Scott. He was one of my early rabbit trails and I spent many an hour chasing him. My ancestor is William HAWKINS Martin, son of John Martin and Isabell Martin. After 30 years of research and TONS of documentation, I am absolutely certain your William Harvey is NOT the son of John and Isabell. I have William Hawkins Martin's discharge papers from the Civil War stating his middle name as Hawkins. I also have bible records that mach his birthdate to this William Hawkins and list him as the son of John and Isabell. John and Isabell's William H. was born 5/28/1823 and died 7/2/1893. I also have allhis descendency information and letters written between his brothers and parents during the civil war. Your William Harvey is often incorrectly listed by many people as the son of John and Isabell and it made my life miserable for years trying to connect him. So don't feel bad, there is a lot of mis-information out there, that is why this group is so valuable. The good news is he is not John and Isabell's son, because so far, nobody but nobody has been able to find their parents for sure. Several guesses out there, but nothing concrete that I know of. However, your William Harvey is pretty well documented I believe. He is not mine and I cannot help you. But, there are definitely people here that can. Try going to the threaded archives and checking the old posts. If you do not know how to do that, contact our list administrator and she can tell you how to do it. Don't despair, knowing who you are NOT related to, is often just as important as knowing who you ARE related to. I wish you luck and good hunting! Welcome aboard. Best regards, Maggie
