Everybody seems to have a brick wall. Mine is Simeoin Baxter Martin. The 1850 census has him in Pike County, Alabama with his birth date and place being "about" 1814 in Georgia. The 1860 census has him in in Caney Township, Ouachita County, Arkansas and has his birth date as "about 1812" The 1870 census has him still in Caney Township with a birth date of "about 1811". The 1880 census has him still in Caney Township and he does not show up on subsequent census or county tax records. Family tradition has his parents being from South Carolina but no name has been identified for either parent. He was married in South Carolina to Mary Virginia Smyth (various family letters have her last name as Smith, Smyth, or Smythe). The date of the marriage was 1821 and his first son, Francis Marion Martin, was born the same year but his birth place was Pike County Alabama. There is some confusion concerning Mary Smyth as her son, Francis Marion Martin, married a Mary Smith who was from Alabama. Anyway, any help that is available will be much appreciated. Doug Martin
