If your Martin line is from France, then you are probably aware of the fact that Martin is the most common surname there. To complicate that, the French-Canadian Martin line has about 30 dit names to consider. In the North Country, where your line settled, dit names were very common. Some of the people you look for may not be under the Martin surname. Mac- A good day to you as well- I am very aware of my Martin line and the many French Dit names that one must consider when doing the research. Although Martin is a very common surname and at times can be confusing, I have managed to trace my family sometimes with the assistance of and sometimes in spite of the numerous Dit names. It continues to be a welcomed challenge and if I can be of any assistance to anyone else doing similar research I am happy to do so- Take Care gerry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Casa Del Luna" <sharmacvilla@comcast.net> To: <martin@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 29, 2007 1:30 PM Subject: Re: [MARTIN] Any MARTIN Family Connections in Vermont/Canada? > If your Martin line is from France, then you are probably aware of the > fact > that Martin is the most common surname there.
