    1. [MARTIN] Surnames connected to my MARTIN Line
    2. Peggy Gunter
    3. Hi Think I will try something different today. As a general rule familes traveled in groups in the early years not as individuals. So I am going to list my surnames and places AND IN THE 1700-1800 TIME FRAME MaternaL.: MARTIN, CARR, ELROD, MAHAN, HOWELL, STEWART, BREWER, DYER, YOUNGBLOOD, THOMAS. BRYANT, GENTRY, RICE, BROWN,WEST, LEE Paternal: DILLDINE, LAFEVER, ARD, HUTCHINGS, MEDLEY, PARSLEY, CHILDRESS, CHARROON, DEVORE, CARR, CARDWELL If you look at the 1860 census for District 8 Putnam County TN the majority of familes there intermarried into my lines. I was related to most of the population. Born in Putnam Co myself. In the early 1800s they seem to be in WhiteCo, JacksonCo, DeKalbCo and Putnam Co Tennessee. There are multile spellings of most of the above names. They all wound up in East Middle Tennessee by the 1800s with the exception of CHARROON and DEVORE. My Dildines were Palatines who came here in 1710, My French lines (Lafever, Devore, Charroon) were Huguenots. Most of the rest of them are Scotch/Irish or English best I can determine. THIS IS THE AREA I AM RESEARCHING AND THE TIME LINE. Most were in VIRGINIA(and what is now West Virginia) and came to TENNESSEE thru KENTUCKY or the CAROLINAS. I hear rumors of some American Indian but have no proof. Would not surprise me though. If you can tie your MARTIN to any of these names in this time frame in these places then we need to compare notes. I have done very little research after 1930 except my direct lines. Before the people were in VA they may have been in any state on the eastern seaboard Have a good week Peggy

    1. [MARTIN] Elrods and separate Martin Line

    3. Good news for you. The ELrods have to be one of the most researched lines in the U.S. They were of German descent and here before we were the U.S. I think that the first one was Christopher and his family in what is now New Jersy in the late 1600s or very early 1700s. They have all family lines mapped out after that. They were in N.Y.,Penn., Va., and S.C. Some went to Il.,Texas, and one went back to N.Y. I am also an Elrod descendent but can not claim to have done all that research. I am certain that if you contact someone on the Elrod list or forum etc. you will get an answer about the time line and events about your particular branch. My Martins and Elrods did not connect like yours did. My Elrods were the branch that went to Texas. My Martins were from Indiana and then came to La. before the Civil War. Issach Martin b. in Indiana went to Avoyelles Parish,La. and was listed on the 1870 census. He was the third husband of my ggg grandmother, Sarahann Lewis Wilson Hagewood who was born in 1820 in Miss. and was in La. by 1844 when she first married. I imagine that Issach Martins time of birth would be about the same. Sarahann and Issach had one child who died named Barbara Gayle. She died as a young child before 1880. Mr. Martin was step-father to Resin Stelle Wilson and Indiana Wilson. Ironicaly, the Family Bible shows that Sarahann Wilson nee Lewis may have been related to Martins before the marriage. Sarahann Lewis married Ludson Wilson and her younger brother and sister lived with the newly weds in La. They were James Madison Lewis 16 and Alsa Martin 13. They were also on the 1850 census. The first husband Ludson Wilson died in 1859. Sarahann and children lived with new husband Charles Hagewood on 1860. He died at the beginning of the war, and she remarried immeadiately to Issach Martin and remained so until they died in the late 1890s. Anyone have Issach or Alsa Martin in La. ?
