I haven't asked about my "brickwall" for some time now. This looks like a good time to do so. My gg grandfather, Lucius Cary Martin is consistently shown on MS census with the data above, i.e., b. in VA in 1797. His brother, William, was born in 1795 in VA. They both died in Waynesboro, Wayne Co., MS. Both died after 1860. Lucius married Mary Ann Russell, according to family information, but there is a question about whether he married ____ Hough. Both families were nearby in MS, and both originated in VA. It is possible that they traveled together. William married Jane Sims. Lucius was in MS with several pieces of land as early as 1810. He had 8 children, but several died in the Civil War. They were Richard T., Pickney (Pinckney?) T., William, Oliver P., Francis "Frank" Hough (my ggrandfather,) Elisa, Roan "Dock", and Lucius Cary. Family lore says that his grandfather came from London through the Barbadoes, but there is nothing to substantiate that. There is quite a bit of information in MS, because of land records, etc., but I have not been able to locate anything in VA. There was a Cary Martin in Albemarle Co., VA in the 1820's. Lucius Cary was the Viscount of the Falklands in the early 1600's, and he was celebrated in a poem by Robert Burns. It is possible that he was named for that historical/literary figure. On the other hand, there was a Lucius Cary (last name Cary) in Fluvanna County, VA in the 1820's. There might be some relationship with that family. I have poked around in several clerks' offices in VA, to no avail. ANY help would be appreciated.
