Many of the Martin's listed in the Dawes & Miller apps will be descended from Nancy Ward.Cherokee Beloved Woman of the Overhills. Her daughter Elizabeth was born to Briant Ward. Elizabeth had children and co-habitated with Joseph Martin of ABlemarle Co VA. I'd advise anyone interested in their Cherokee lineages to look at two publications....just to get started....they would be Dr. Emmett Starr's "History of the Cherokee Indian" and David Keith Hampton's ''Cherokee Mixed Bloods''. These two publications will get you started. www.accessgenealogy.com is an great online source for aid.
