    2. Only could be inappropiate to a athiest, all others believe in god. as our forefathers did. Athiests were not an issue then and I don't honor their stupid opinions now or ever. Most of us Trust in a God on some form be we Catholics, Methodists, Mormons, Buddists, Moslems, or even Radicial Moslems. I record in my Genealogical records all religous notes. Detractors probably wish the that be purged as well. 3. Larry, I would personally find *any* discussion of politics or religion to be off-topic here, regardless of my own personal views about particular politics or particular religions. I also record religious notes about my ancestors in my files, and there's certainly nothing wrong, in my opinion, with mentioning on a genealogy mailing list that a particular ancestor was an adherent to a particular religion (or to none at all), because that is part of their lives and may even help us to discover records about them. The same is true about the political views of our ancestors. But, in my personal opinion, *advocating* a particular religious point of view (or advocating an atheistic point of view), or advocating a particular political point of view, are off topic for a genealogy list. And I believe that is what was being objected to here. I don't use genealogy-oriented lists to talk about my own personal religious or political views, and I would hope that others don't, either. I'm here to learn and to discuss things that will help me know my ancestors better. The religious and political views of other posters doesn't help me do that. And I respect the other posters here by not discussing my own personal views about any religion or politics.
