    1. [MARTIN] Martin & Williams in Bedford Co., VA
    2. Randy Williams
    3. Hello, My name is Randy Williams but my yDNA matches Group 8 in the Martin DNA project. The Williams and Martins were in Bedford County, VA in the late 1700's. William Martin, b. 1760, married Susanna Meador in Bedford in 1782. My earliest known Williams ancestor is James Williams, b. 1793. He was supposedly the son of a Catherine Williams and an unknown Indian father. But, as I mentioned, my yDNA matches these Martins. On the same page in the Bedford marriage records is a John Martin who married Catherine Williams in 1817, with James Williams, surety. But my James Williams was born in 1793. I have matched with only one other Williams and he descends from a John Williams, b. 1795, who ended up in Floyd County, KY. William Martin, b. 1760, also ended up in Floyd County, KY. Also on the same page in the marriage records is a Bailey Martin who marries Elizabeth Williams in 1824 with the consent of James Williams. My James Williams, b. 1793, married Temperance Lane and lived most all his life in what is now Scott County, Virginia. This James Williams named one of his sons Rial Martin Williams. There was a Mitchell Martin who was born in Goochland, VA in the 1760's who named a son Rial Martin. Is there anyone who knows these lines and can shed any light on this? I welcome all theories or scenarios. Thanks, Randy Williams Blacksburg, Virginia 540-239-6035

    3. Randy, I look at the Martins in Bedford County, Va a little bit in the time frame that you are talking about. My husband descends from the John Martin and Catherine Williams married in 1817 with James Martin surety. > HInshaw says bond are 29th in his volume VI James Williams Surety > married by John Ayers on 30 Jan 1817. I have a list of children that I believe belong to this family if you would want the names. My data base says: > John had lived in Bedford Co VA. In 1838 he purchased 100A in > Montgomery Co VA on the north > fork of the Roanoke River. > > John is living in Archibald and Nancy’s home in the census of 1870 so > probably his wife has died. He is 80 years old at that time which also > matches up with the birth date that I have. Nancy is one of John and Catherine's daughters. Archibald is Archibald Moses. He and Nancy are actually living on land that had originally belonged to John Martin. I believe that Nancy and Archibald had lived close to Nancy's parents for all of their married life and that they continued to care for John until his death. My data base also says: > > James Williams is listed as surety on the marriage bonds according to > Hinshaw’s Volume VI . Baley Martin and Elizabeth Williams have > marriage bonds 1824, 9, 1. John Martin is surety and consent is given > by James Williams . Marriage takes place Sept 5. 1824 by John Ayers. I have put James Williams in as father for Catherine Williams ....probably based on the fact that he gives consent on this marriage. I have done very little more research on this....but am happy to share anything that I have. 3. Then after pushing send on my e-mail, I looked at your address. These Martins lived only miles from your home. They lives at McDonald's Mill. Last time we were in Blacksburg, we just drove right on out one of the roads there to see where these people had lived. I would be happy to chat. marsha in WV Randy Williams wrote: >Hello, >My name is Randy Williams but my yDNA matches Group 8 in the Martin DNA project. 3. Hello Mr. Williams, Your family line caught my eye because of the name of Bailey Martin. However, the exact Bailey Martin that you list here is not the same man I am following, but the use of the name at least caught my eye. My earliest direct ancestor is William M. Martin b. 1826 Rockingham Co NC. I am not sure of his father, but he was closely associated with Bailey Martin, Jr b. 1793 Rockingham Co NC. Bailey Martin, Sr is a man who married a Lydia. Lydia and Bailey Martin Sr lived on Troublesome Creek in Rockingham Co NC from at least 1790. This exact area is close to Reidsville, NC. They lived next door to a man named JAMES Martin, who is said to have come from Henry County, Virginia. Bailey Martin, Sr died and left Lydia a widow, when she died in 1840 she left a Will in Rockingham Co VA, which named her 2 sons as: Michajah Martin and Bailey Martin Jr. However in her Will, she chose to name Bailey and his wife Isabelle and all their children one by one, but for her son Michajah she only named him, no wife or children named. My theory is, that my ancestor William M. Martin was not the son of Bailey Martin, Jr and Isabelle, because they already have a son named William Thoms Martin. But my ancestor could be the son of Michajah Martin, the brother to Bailey Martin, Jr. My ancestor William M. Martin b. 1826 NC left Rockingham Co NC about 1853 to move and settle at Henderson Co Tennessee. James Nathaniel Martin b. 1836 Rockinghma Co NC also went with him to Henderson Co TN, near Lexington. James Nathaniel Martin was the son of Bailey Martin, Jr and Isabelle Herron, of Rockingham Co NC. My ancestor William M. Martin died in 1870 at Henderson Co TN, and by 1878 his widow and his children, along with James Nathaniel Martin, his wife Sarah Westbrook, and children, all moved together to Navarro County, Texas, near Corsicanna. I already know all the children and grandchildren of Bailey Martin, Jr and Isabelle Herron. I also know all the children and grandchildren of William M. Martin. I would like to find more about Michajah Martin, the son of Bailey Martin, Sr and Lydia. I would like to find the father of William M. Martin b. 1826 Nc.
