Sallie Hammonds is the sister of Ales Bentley Martin, Richard Bentley, and Daniel Bentley. Her name was Sarah and she was nicknamed Sallie. Richard Bentley is Ales Bentley Martin's brother, son of Jeremiah. LM's first wife would be Martha Moore but I show her dead by 1856 (from a letter written by Lucrecy Bentley Luker)????? He did have a "companion" Arminta Arrington and possibly he his referring to her???? I am only aware of Daniel A. and Matilda as his children. Does anyone else know the other four daughters????? Hillsboro Ills Sept 13 70 My Dear Sister, I have just met a neighbor of yours who gives me news from you, and kindly offers to carry this to you, I am now visiting my children, going round and spending a few days with each. I spent the greater part of the summer that way, my health is better than it was when I wrote you before, my wife's health is good, we are both enjoying good health for people of our age, we still live in Greenvile Ills, I am now in Hillsboro twenty miles from home making a visit (a visit) the second "a visit" marked out to my son in law J. Hanson Jones. I propose to go next to my grand= daughter Celia Moss and see her family. I am now 86 years old I am not able to attend to business, and I intend to spend the time till cold weather if I live visiting my children spending a few days with each. My oldest daughter Nancy is living in Elm Point eight miles from my home. she is living alone her husb= and is dead, Edith lives in Elm Point, her name is Fairchild she has one daughter Rebecca Jett, Rebecca has five sons and one daughter, my next daughter Sarah Davis lives eight miles from Hillsboro. she has three sons four daughters and seven grandchildren My next daughter Margaret Robinson lives near her alone on her farm. I have two sons living Samuel lives in Carlyle Ills with his family, William and his family live in Henne[???]in Ills (un-readable) My sisters sisters Sally and Lucy were living and ("sisters" is repeated) in good health last march Sally lives in Lauderdale Co Alabama near where she did when you left, Lucy lives in Tennesee below Lawrence burg, and in the corner of the adjoining county, and old D Bumpus is yet living 125 (George says this is Dale Bumpus) years old, my youngest son in law is living alone in Hillsboro, he keeps a Photograph gallery,and and sends you the pictures (I do not have copies of these) of himself and his buried wife Mary. I omitted to mention in order My daughter Elizabeth she lives in Greenville with her husband John P. Garland she has four sons and two daughters, My two sons Garner and Balaam have !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! been dead many years their children are grown up and scattered from Vermont to Texas, Let me hear from you as often as you can and write as soon as you can. I also have a letter written from Lucrecy (Lucy) Bentley Luker to her sister Ales and her husband Lewis Martin. She signs the letter, "remains efectionat sister till Death Lucrecy W Lucur." She mentions that Likerges Bentley's wife and his youngest child are "ded". She also mentions Robert Baley(Bailey) was at her house on New Year's day and "reat" (wrote) her on February 2 saying his father and mother were well and lived about twelve miles from him in the "lewsianna" she lists prices for several commodities, she mentions the church at mob creek and the church at "blew" (Blue) weater (weather), and the second creke (creek) church. She mentions Brethering Askew and Newton. Hope this helps someone. If anyone has a copy of Jeremiah's will I would love to have it. Million things to do today so I have to zooooom. More later .
