It attaches itself to all outgoing messages using the Signature feature of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer newsgroup reader. The worm utilises a known Microsoft Outlook Express security hole so that a viral file is created on the system without your having to run any attachment. Simply reading the received email message causes the virus to be placed on the system. Microsoft has patched this security hole. The patch is available in: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q262/1/65.ASP at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/security/eyedog.asp?FinishURL=%2Fd ownloads%2Frelease%2Easp%3FReleaseID%3D11911%26redirect%3Dno For more information about the security patch please see the following Microsoft Web site: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms99-032.asp Virus prevention Download the free antivirus AVG software from the URL http://ww2.grisoft.com/html/us_index.cfm This can be set to run on your machine once a day. It will warn you when an e-mail arrives with a virus associated with it and detect and remove viruses automatically. You should update your AVG anti virus software monthly to cater for new viruses.
