Sandy - If you haven't already, look for these people in the 1920 Census -- the microfilm should be available through your local public library. Her mother, a brother, or some other relative might be living with them that would give you clues. If nothing else, you'll find out in which state she was born (if you don't already know). Look at the actual Census rather than a Soundex or a compiled index so that you can see any other surnames in the household at the time.
