Here are my Georgia Martins again: My gggrandfather was Reuben Martin in the 1850 Emanuel Co Census as age 47 w/wife Prisceller, age 35. Their children were: Elizabeth age 19 (in 1850) Martha age 17 John age 14 Mary age 12 Rachel age 6 William age 5 Sarah age 3 Vianah age 2 Not named age 3 mo. (F) Also listed in the household is John S. 35, mechanic (#109) Apparently, Priscilla died before the 1860 Census, as Reuben married Jane Cavanaugh Dec 23, 1858. In the 1860 Jefferson Co Census the family is listed as follows: Reuben age 57 Jane (wife) age 20 Eliza J. Martha Rachel William H. Sarah A. Vianah Elvira L. Em Milly L (2) Althi(?) L. Baby I copied the 1860 Census from a page handwritten by my mother; the 1850 Census record came from a page in a book photocopied by her several years ago. On this photocopied page is a Jessie Mortin and a James Morton, age 46. One is above and one below Reubin, and his name is spelled Mortin. I have no idea as to the name of the book and no clue whether the James was a mispelling directly from the census or was made by the transcriber in the book. Have been in contact with some descendants of Jessie and know that his was a mispelling, along with my Reubin. According to my oral family history information, Reubin moved on later to Bullock Co and then possibly to Mississippi. From things told to me by my mother (Reuben's ggrandaughter), the family (I guess Priscilla's family and the grown children) was annoyed with him for the second marriage to a 19-year old when he was well into his fifties. I have the names of the spouses of some of the children of Reubin & Priscilla (have posted them on the Martin rootsweb list) and a book from the descendents of Jessie. If you will send me the time frame for your Joseph and James, I will see if they are by chance in the book or other material that I have. I believe that all of us looking for our Martins in this area can help each other by sharing what we have for the process of elimination if nothing else. One other thing is that Priscilla Martin's maiden name was Murphy/Murphree or some other spelling of that one. Cecile
