Dear Martin List: I am searching for a B. or Abner Martin who married a Mary Ann ? b. Jan. 1812 in Springhill twp. Fayette Co. Pa. and had the following children: Mary Ellen , b. 2 June 1837 in Springhill twp. Fayette Co., Pa. Married George Pilkington of Kansas 6 Oct. 1857 and had 9 children Lucius S., b. 2 April 1847 in Springhill twp.. Fayette Co., Pa. Married Margaret Springer 18 June 1869 in Uniontown, Pa. They had 9 children. Elizabeth, b. 15 Nov. 1850 in Georges Twp., Masontown, Pa. Married Upton Newton Webb about 1870. No children found yet. Alexander, b. 13 July 1851 in Uniontown, Fayette Co. Pa. Married a "Jennie". No children found. Marinda, b. 1854 married J. B. Davis of Webb City, Mo. Nothing known about her except she died before 1900. James B. b. 12 March 1856 in Uniontown, Fayette Co., Pa. married Elizabeth Ellen Gillespie in 1884. Had 8 or 9 children In the 1860's census Mary Ann is a "widow". So Mr. Martin died between 1856 and 1860 when the census came out. Lucius S. was a Civil War veteran and I have all the papers from the National Archives but no where in it does it name his father's true name. When James B. died, the informant was his oldest daughter who named him B. Martin. When Lucius S. died, the informant was my husband's father who named him Abner Martin, b. in Pa. I have been living with this "brick wall" for at least 15 years. I thought perhaps he went to Kansas with his daughter but Mary Ann had all the children in the Fayette Co. area. No trace of B. or Abner. No church records found for any of them. I thought sure there would be records for Elizabeth in a Masontown church but I wrote to all of them with no luck. No tax records found for him. I found a Barnabus in 1850 with a wife named Lucinda and similar children's names but too old for Abner or B. Martin's children. He could have been a brother. Can anyone figure this puzzle out? Any help would be VERY APPRECIATED! Shirley Martin, Dayton, Oh.
