    1. [MARTIN-L] New info on my Martins
    2. Tom & Dee Scott
    3. Hi, Research has turned up new info so I will again ask the good people of this list if anyone has any leads to my family. Here's the updated info regarding Frank A. Martin: His father was William A. Martin, born in January 1821 (some census records indicate 1825 or 1826) in Randolph County, Georgia. His mother's name was Mary but her last name, if she had one, is still unknown. She is believed to have been 1/2 Cherokee. Mary was born in 1820 in Georgia. William's father was believed to have been John Nutt Martin, born 1797 in Washington County, Georgia. This paternal lineage traces clearly to County Antrim, Northern Ireland. William A. Martin is known to have had 2 marriages in addition to the relationship which produced Frank . Frank's known siblings were Mary Elizabeth (1850-?), Rebeckah (ca 1852), Camelia "Milla" (ca 1852), Wiley Addison (1856-?), W. C. "Cole" (1859-?), John (1861-?), and George Washington "G.W." (1862-?). All were born in Alabama. We know Frank was married to a woman named Angeline Newell, born 1847 in Georgia or Alabama, who bore him 4 daughters, Mattie, Sarah (Sally), Ella, and Adeline Roselee. A portion of her family tree can be seen here. The oldest daughter, Mattie, was born at an unknown time. Sarah was born February 17, 1869. Ella was born about 1872 and our Great Grandmother Adeline Roselee (photo above right), known in the family as "Addie Lee", was born December 12, 1874. Angeline Newell Martin passed away in 1876, in Alabama. Frank remarried, to a woman named Nebraska Shaw and they had a son, William Henry Martin before moving west. The family, along with Frank's brother Wiley and elements of the Vail and Bradley families, settled in Lincoln Parish, Louisiana then finally in Bienville Parish, Louisiana, some time prior to 1883. There Frank and Nebraska had their final child, a daughter, Cora Martin. Frank Martin died in 1884 when Cora was only 2 years old. He was buried on the banks of Dugdemonia Creek in Bienville Parish, Louisiana. His wooden gravemarker was long ago washed away during a flood. Of Frank's siblings we know that sister Mary Elizabeth married Bennett S. Riddle. He was born July 13, 1845 and died June 17, 1916. He served in the C.S.A., Company B of the 41st Alabama Infantry. Mary Elizabeth was known as "Aunt Sis" and died September 19, 1950 and is buried at Millcreek Methodist Church Cemetery. Frank's sister Camella (Milla) is buried at Chestnut, LA. She and husband ? Trechelle had 5 kids; Doll, Lizzie, Eli, Herbert, and a girl who died when she was 12. Wiley Adison Martin had 3 wives. He first married Rosie ?, then a woman whose name is unknown, and finally, Sally Dawkins. It is said that he was "short, rode a big mule, and had a mustache." Brother Cole (W.C.) is buried at Creston, Black Lake. He married Zula Williams who was born at Reidheimer. Brother George Washington (G.W.) married Mary Lowery and they are buried between Campti and Coushatta. Mattie Martin married Pitt Driskill and bore him 4 children, Nano, William, John, and George. Sarah married Thomas Jefferson Anderson in 1883 and bore him one daughter, Adie Arlena "Lena" Anderson, on January 14, 1887, before passing away on December 25, 1887. Adie Arlena married Steve Decatur Renfrow on June 18, 1908 and bore him 9 children. Her line also thrives to this day in Northern Louisiana. Ella married Will Stocks and bore him 3 children, Allen, Eva, and Erma. On January 1, 1891 Addie Lee Martin married Benjamin Franklin Jimmerson (pictured above left with Addie) in Bienville Parish, Louisiana. Between 1891 and 1916 she bore him 15 children, one of whom was our Maternal Grandfather Joseph Dayton Jimmerson (December 16, 1901 - November 9, 1976). The other children were William David (October 5, 1891 - July 7, 1963), Lucinda Matilda (born 1893), Andrew Franklin (born 1895), Jesse Napoleon (November 5, 1896 - November 20, 1985), Mattie Mae (born 1898), Tommy Martin (March 6, 1900 - March 27, 1985), Addie Lee (born 1903), John Harvey (March 6, 1905 - 1983), Vera Pauline (July 19, 1907 - September 16, 1993), Sara Ella (born 1909), Irma Jewel (born 1911), Henry Cleveland (1913 - 1975), Lester Glenn (January 4, 1916 - August 17, 1986), and a baby boy who passed on the same day he was born (December 7, 1914). Her line continues today down to my 2 children and many others of their generation. Addie Lee passed away in 1938 and was buried on church ground. William Henry Martin never married. His sister Cora, on the other hand, married 3 times and had 2 children, Felix Johnson who "bore all the marks of his Indian ancestry", and Lela Mae Rogers.
