Memorial of the Inhabitants in the Cherokee Country (State Department Records. Ednorsed August 1819>) To the Honorable Secretary of War: Your petitioners viewint the calamitous situation in which many of our citizens are placed, owing to an Order recently published by the Agent for Indian affairs of the Cherokee Nation Ordering all Intruders on their land to remove by the first day of July 1819. Your petitionioners believing the same indulgence would be extended to them, as has been the constant practice to others in similar circumstances, induced them to settle on the lands lately ceded to the United States by the Cherokees, North of the Tennessee River, nor did the order ever make its formal appearance until the 19th of June of the present year leaving a removal impracticable, if not impossible to deprive them at this season of the year of their hard earnings in the Wilderness and thus leave them destitute where will your petitioners apply for bread to support their starving families? --its notorious that all improvements made by your petitioners add real value to the land -- this Order enforced, will involve at least one thousand families in total ruin.-- nor will the evil end here, your petitioners must subsist somewhere, they will thus become unwelcome guests to the frontier counties to beg (for they cannot buy) something for their little children. this measure if carried into operation will produce alarming effects -- The Indians on the North of Tennessee (RIcer) are not desirous of having the settlers driven off the land, those being few in number most of which have taken reservations and are good neighbors -- Your petitioners knowing the levity of their government and believing they will take our case into consideration will every pray. (There is a very long list of names, 4 pages, 3 columns. Following is only a very short list of names) Jesse Brock Robert Gaston M.D. Dixon Hercules Lewis (incorrectly transcribed as Henderson) William Brittain Peter Shelton William Lewis David Martin John Lewis [Endorsed - Memorial of the Inhabitants resident in the Cherokee country relative to the late order for their removal - Indian Office) August 1819] Following the above is 7 pages of Alabama residents on Cherokee land to be removed Many of the names listed are proven to be Cherokee inhabitants. My name is Lori and I am new to this list. I am trying to find information on Charles Bert Martin. The only information that I have is that he married a woman named Rosina Marion Thompson and they had a daughter named Virginia Ann Martin. She was born on April 13 1922 in Tensed, Idaho. Virginia was also known to use the maiden name of Goodreau as well. If anyone has any information on this family it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Lori Faris Alaska

Good Afternoon, I am looking for birth/death detail for TOUSSAINT MARTIN who married in St. Anne Church, Fall River, Bristol County, Maine on the 8th of Jan 1894 to Celina LAVIGNE, daughter of Francois & Celina BEAUDET. Any help would be appreciated. Andrea Scott
Mary Jane Martin (Hiram Koonrod Martin's step mother and widow of Jeremiah Bellastin Martin ) mentions in her letter that she is returning to Eddyville, Iowa with the children after Jeremiah's death. So the children must have grown up in Eddyville and then Hiram married Martha Lenore Thompson there. She mentions her father and "Catherine". That's why I think that Mary Jane is buried there. I did talk to the White Rose Cemetery in Bartlesville, OK today, and they said that Hiram's daughter, Rachel Gertrude Martin Crocker is buried next to him, cause of death cervical cancer. She died at the age of 49, September 26,1937. She is in Space 9. McAllister Funeral Home. Hiram is in Space 8. Died May 31,1922 at the age of 65 of a stroke and paralysis. Kerrick Funeral Home. Martha Lenore Thompson Martin died 3/12/1954 at the age of 91 of senility. The funeral home as McAllister Funeral Home. I have also located the obituaries of both Hiram and his wife Martha Lenore Thompson Martin. I am ordering them. Will share when I get them. No relation, just saw obit in the newspaper. June Sylvia Ystesund Martin, passed away May 8, 2007, born June 1, 1921 in Thief River Falls, MT. She was wife of Hollis M. Martin, who she married in 1946 and he passed away in 2005. Her sons are Michael T. Martin of Bellevue, WA, Hollis Anthony Martin of Orem, UT, and Terrance G. Martin of Spokane, WA. She appears to have been a member of the LDS church. The only further info I have is trivial info provided in the obit. It is the same on all lists, Jim. Those of you who have sent messages to the Martin list lately and haven't seen them posted, it is because the messages are too long and got hung-up on the server. Keep your quoting of the message to which you are replying to a minimum as that is usually the problem. Please cut them shorter and resend.
