Have their siblings as Valentine, Elizabeth Ann, Orson, Thomas and Lucy Martin. I am guessing at the age of Martin based on his marriage date. I need to get in the other computer for more info on the family. Am working on the Martin line in Skye by cannot document as yet. I have an Andrew Jackson Martin, born 1825 in Jasper County, Georgia. I believe this same person married in Barbour County, Alabama, in 1851 (Marriage Records, 1838-1859, Barbour County, Alabama, compiled by Helen Foley (Southern Historical Press, Greenville, SC, 1990), p. 51, lists marriage of A.J. Martin and Nancy A. Bevil, 30 Oct 1851, by F.E. Baker, J.P. [p. 55 of original marriage records]). Any possible connection? Goodsonl959.....where in Texas did your Martins settle...what year? I have Martins in Freestone County Texas. John
Hello Looking for Martins from Georgia to Texas John and Fronie Martin. with sons John and Robert. born in the 1875-1878
Sharon....My Martin family also ended up in Freestone Co Texas. Started in Georgia with birth of Jackson Martin in l820....in Alabama by l840....in Freestone County by about l865. I have some info that they were in Miss before Freestone Co but not proven. Jackson was married to Mary Elizabeth Sanford (Sanford also not proven). Have we corresponded before??? John Kulbeth, Merced, Calif. (kuland177@cs.com)
John, Here is a long shot, but worth looking at. My Stricklands were in Shelby Co, Texas before Freestone. Their parents had headrights there. There were some Martins in Shelby and Panola that could possibly be tied in with these. I do know there were Sanfords in Shelby County. Samuel Sanford had land next to my Samuel Strickland's headright. At least it is something to look at. There were other Sanfords there also. When my Stricklands came to Freestone they were young kids. Their parents had been killed in East Texas during and right after the Moderator Regulator War. The kids along with other children that were left orphans packed up and moved to Freestone. Please tell me more about your Martins. John, No. We have never corresponded before. John, look in Union County, Arkansas 1850 for your Martins. Mine were in Freestone by 1860. They show up in the census next door to my Strickland family. Please tell me more about your Martins. They may be from the same group. My group was in Mississippi. Eliza and one or more of her siblings were born in Mississippi. Can't wait to hear from you again. Great to hear from you! Just a few suggestions for Skydancer-don't know if you've tried any of these routes: There are a few Isaac Martins listed on the War of 1812 data base at http://www.sierrahome.com/familytree... I am going on this assumption-many of the white men who married Native American woman were service men-perhaps that is the route to try if you haven't.(Isaacs are listed on TN, NC, and Kentucky musters.) I also noted that the locations you listed were on or near Cherokee Reservations-was Martha of the Cherokee Nation? They have lots of records since they were driven out of state after state during this time frame to make room for the settlers to come in. Here's a couple Cherokee sites...maybe someone there can help. The Native Amoericans of TN site http://www.chattanooga.net/naia http://www.rootsweb.com~cherokee/na_sourc.html Also plug the name of the reservation into a search engine, they probaly have a web site and people there to guide you in the search. They would know of the churches where records be found-as I mentioned before the church was out to convert + and the government kept track of them as the pushed them westward-there is a paper trial. Just thought you sounded frustrated and maybe a little brain storming might get you jump started...I have done a little Native American research too...Carol Anderson(my email is pcserve@cheqnet.net to mail off list) Skydancer wrote: > Bearpaw > How would I learn about this family? I gleaned the Martin MARTIN data through the Hicks family connection......I know the names of the children only through a deed in which Shadrack Martin gave his children their inheritances. Martin MARTIN and his wife Dicey Hicks....Martin MARTIN was said to have been born about 1755. He died 24 February 1837. Martin MARTIN and wife,Dicey lived in Laurens County, SC before moving northward to Spartanburg County, SC. They lived in the area of New Pleasant which is where they died. They are both buried at the New Pleasant Baptist Church cemetery near Cowpens,SC. Their graves are marked or at least the headstones were exant in 1995 at my last visit. This concludes the data which I have for said family. Thank you for your kind reply. Shirley in Oregon
