Hi List, sorry to clog up the list but had problems with OE and have lost a few things I'd been sent in the last few weeks. Weird email on Sunday locked me up and I tried to use OE5.. back to my old one but lost several things. The Will's of Virginia for one.. I'd sent it to several people so if someone would send it back I'd appreciate it.. For the new cousins of mine that I had found -- I'm a descendant of William Waddell Martin, born 1829 in Anderson SC--if you'll email again I'll start over.. Any help is greatly appreciated.. I have been researching my paternal martin family in CT, NY, OH,Ill, & MO. I just found out that my maternal great grandmother was also a Martin. All I know at this juncture is that her name was Julia Martin. She married a Charles Oalmann. They had at least four children, Charles, Julia, Hilda and Magdalena. Magdalena was born in New Orleans on April 4, 1909. I am guessing her siblings were also born in New Orleans as they did settle there. Does anyone have some Louisiana Martins that include Julia in there tree? thanks for your help! Penny
I have Martins who were in Fort Worth, I believe by 1885; however, I am not aware that other Martins in Fort Worth were related. My ggrandfather was Francis "Frank" Hough Martin, b. 1845 in Wayne Co., MS to Lucius Cary (L.C.) Martin and Mary Ann (Russell or Hough.) L.C. Martin was b. 1797 in VA, but was in MS by 1824. Frank Martin married Fannie Hutchinson from Choctaw Co., AL and did 1905 in Fort Worth. I believe I am aware of all of Frank's siblings, and my grandmother, Pearl Martin, was an only child, but it is possible that other Martin families in Fort Worth were cousins. I hope you're having better luck with this line than I am, LaFaye Sutkin Redlands, CA ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dave Martin" <dmartin@globalrmktg.com> To: <MARTIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, June 30, 2001 6:43 AM Subject: [MARTIN-L] Re: MARTIN-D > Any information on Amos Martin b ca 1785 any where married Elizabeth hennessee > > AAnything on Martins in Ft Worth TX, or Upshire Co, Texas any year > > > Dave Martin > 713-772-1417 > 713-772-8839 fax > or e-mail > > > Thanks > Dave Martin <dmartin@globalrmktg.com> > Global Remarketing & Recovery, Inc. > 12869 Capricorn Dr. > Stafford, Texas 77036-6056 > 281-265-8600 > > See our Inventory on the Internet at > www.globalrmktg.com > > This message is intended only for the use of the recipient > to whom it is addressed. Some individuals have the following Ann TOMLIN who married Thomas HARRIS listed in their information as Ann MARTIN. >From what I have seen listing her Ann TOMLIN as the daughter of Martin TOMLIN/TOMLYN, it would appear that the information of Ann MARTIN is in error; however, if anyone has anything to contradict that I would love to know in order to correct that. And, also, looking at the information below the immediate excerpt from my original email is an email from Chris JONES who is trying to connect with others researching the lineage from the Richard JONES who married Jane HARRIS, daughter of Ann TOMLIN/TOMLYN and Thomas HARRIS. Thomas HARRIS was the son of Thomas HARRIS and Alice WEST. Thomas HARRIS was born about 1636 in Isle of Wight, Virginia. He died 9 Oct 1688 in Isle of Wight Co, VA. Ann MARTIN was born 1640. I have MARTINS that ended up in Itawamba County, Mississippi. There were several families of MARTINS and not all were related. Edward was born 1811 (SC) and Isaac born 1777 (?). Also a Jacob Floyd MARTIN who was a Methodist minister. Can anyone shed some light on these families and their connections. Gary
Janet...regarding Isaac G. W. Martin, born l854 in Ala....we have never been able to locate the family on a census, however we believe he was born in or around Marshall Co Ala. He was last heard of living in Freestone Co Texas in l900 with a cousin, John Sanford Martin, born cl850 in Ala. John K.
Hello from France. Please allow me to introduce myself: my name is Patrice Louinet, and I live in France. Some of you have probably received e-mails from me in the past few days, and a member, Frank Martin, suggested I try this list. (Thanks, Frank!). I am not related to any Martin family that I know of, but am in fact researching American author Robert E. Howard's (1906-1936) ancestry. Information on Howard's maternal line is scanty, to say the least. His mother was a Ervin, and in a short autobiographical essay and a Family Bible, are found the following notes about some Martin ancestors. George Washington Ervin was born in 1830, in a plantation near Raleigh, NC. In the early 1840ies, he "crossed the Blue Ridge Mountains, drifted on through Tennessee, turned south and in 1842 settled near Iuka, in Tishomingo County, Mississipi.... About 1848, Dr. Thomas Martin, of Maury County, Tennessee, and a member of an old pioneer family, moved to Tishomingo County, and in 1849 G.W. Ervin married his daughter, Sarah Jane. That same year, her brothers, Joseph and Benjamin Franklin Martin, went to California in the gold rush." I know that one of the brothers never reached California, and died on the road. Don't know which one, nor where. Sarah Jane Martin died June 2, 1874 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She married George Washington Ervin on July 20, 1849. Sarah Jane Martin had ten children in all. Any help concerning these particular Martins would be greatly appeciated. Thanks, Patrice Louinet
