Strange...as I was looking for a Sarah Caroline (Carrie) MARTIN this afternoon...but the dates and places don't match. Given names I have: MATTIE/MARGARET/MARTHA, SARAH, CARRIE, THOMAS, ELMER/EDWARD (I think these were all siblings). I have many other names, but have not been able to make sense of them yet. Locations have posed a problem also. I know the SR Martins, spent many years, and had children in KS and MO. There must be offsprings still there. Also of those kids....Thomas settled in WY and had family there. Sarah moved to CA and married into the Gates family either by her own marriage or of a child of hers. Mattie moved to MT and ND and back to MT and then on to OR. Mattie died in abt 1950 in Portland Oregon. Possibly Sarah, either Mattie's mother or her sister with the same name died in 1931. This last note I have on a postcard, not sure who died, it just says mom died. Not much to go on...............still grasping at straws. Myrna
Edith, Have you looked for your Martins and Coffmans or Koffmans in Penn? Both names are found as Mennonites in Lancaster, Chester, Dauphin counties of Penn. These names so up as early as the 1700's in Penn. Rita

Andrew and list....I have what is listed on Sarah C. (nee MARTIN) KELLY's headstone. Both the 1850 Muscogee County, GA and the 1860 Macon County, AL Census listed her birth year as 1826. The age on her headstone works out to the same birth year. Her husband was John W. KELL(E)Y and I know Sarah bore my 2nd great-grandfather in 1843 in Russell County, AL. Sometime between 1843 and 1845 this couple moved back to GA and stayed at least until after the 1850 Census. My 2nd g-grandfather, William Charles KELLY had two sisters, Mary Virginia and Carrie; both born in GA. I suspect they lived in Columbus or somewhere in the Muscogee County, GA area. John W. is listed as a River boat pilot for an occupation. This conjecture ties in with John and Sarah's marriage in Muscogee County, GA on December 26, 1842. I know this isn't much more than what I had and actually reinterated (sp) what I posted. Andrew, I tend to doubt it as well. Both the 1850 Muscogee County, GA and 1860 Macon County, AL Census list her birth year age...making her birth year 1826. Her headstone lists her age and it works out to be 1826 as well. I wish it were the case. Most likly born in Taylor's Creek, Liberty County, Ga., just like the rest of her family, but I don't list marriage and children. Her father was Martin Martin (1745-4/1/1812). I list her other siblings too, if interested, but sounds like yours is a different Sarah. -----Original Message----- From: Firewalker [mailto:firewalker@ncfreedom.net] Sent: Tuesday, August 14, 2001 10:48 AM To: MARTIN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [MARTIN-L] Sarah Caroline MARTIN > born abt. 1826 SC/GA died November 25, 1892 Fayette County, TX I've just about given up hope, but then I can't because everytime I turn around something new comes along on another line. Anyway, I normally post about twice a year, but since there has been a flurry of action on the MARTIN list I thought I would give it another shot. But instead of posting normally I thought I might ask if someone is missing a Sarah Caroline MARTIN and don't know where they went? In my great-great grandfathers autobiographical account of his life he tells his mothers name. He said she was born in GA. I find her and John W. KELLY for the first time in the marriage records of Muscogee County, GA on December 26, 1842. In the 1850 Muscogee County Census it states Sarah (I think she went by Carrie) was born abt. 1826 in SC. This difference is very common in census records of course. I then find the family in the 1860 Macon County, AL Census and it states Carrie was born in GA. I know she ran a hotel during the Civil War in Macon County, AL, but no one has records of it. I know there were three children. I know in 1880 she moved to Fayette County, TX to live with my great-great grandfather and died there. This is about all I do know though. I know it isn't much to go on, but if anyone is missing a Sarah or Carrie MARTIN after about 1842 please let me know. I have no idea where to search, since the 1840 census doesn't list but head of household. If you think you have the answer, please email me. Mike Kelly firewalker@ncfreedom.net

Hi, Research has turned up new info so I will again ask the good people of this list if anyone has any leads to my family. Here's the updated info regarding Frank A. Martin: His father was William A. Martin, born in January 1821 (some census records indicate 1825 or 1826) in Randolph County, Georgia. His mother's name was Mary but her last name, if she had one, is still unknown. She is believed to have been 1/2 Cherokee. Mary was born in 1820 in Georgia. William's father was believed to have been John Nutt Martin, born 1797 in Washington County, Georgia. This paternal lineage traces clearly to County Antrim, Northern Ireland. William A. Martin is known to have had 2 marriages in addition to the relationship which produced Frank . Frank's known siblings were Mary Elizabeth (1850-?), Rebeckah (ca 1852), Camelia "Milla" (ca 1852), Wiley Addison (1856-?), W. C. "Cole" (1859-?), John (1861-?), and George Washington "G.W." (1862-?). All were born in Alabama. We know Frank was married to a woman named Angeline Newell, born 1847 in Georgia or Alabama, who bore him 4 daughters, Mattie, Sarah (Sally), Ella, and Adeline Roselee. A portion of her family tree can be seen here. The oldest daughter, Mattie, was born at an unknown time. Sarah was born February 17, 1869. Ella was born about 1872 and our Great Grandmother Adeline Roselee (photo above right), known in the family as "Addie Lee", was born December 12, 1874. Angeline Newell Martin passed away in 1876, in Alabama. Frank remarried, to a woman named Nebraska Shaw and they had a son, William Henry Martin before moving west. The family, along with Frank's brother Wiley and elements of the Vail and Bradley families, settled in Lincoln Parish, Louisiana then finally in Bienville Parish, Louisiana, some time prior to 1883. There Frank and Nebraska had their final child, a daughter, Cora Martin. Frank Martin died in 1884 when Cora was only 2 years old. He was buried on the banks of Dugdemonia Creek in Bienville Parish, Louisiana. His wooden gravemarker was long ago washed away during a flood. Of Frank's siblings we know that sister Mary Elizabeth married Bennett S. Riddle. He was born July 13, 1845 and died June 17, 1916. He served in the C.S.A., Company B of the 41st Alabama Infantry. Mary Elizabeth was known as "Aunt Sis" and died September 19, 1950 and is buried at Millcreek Methodist Church Cemetery. Frank's sister Camella (Milla) is buried at Chestnut, LA. She and husband ? Trechelle had 5 kids; Doll, Lizzie, Eli, Herbert, and a girl who died when she was 12. Wiley Adison Martin had 3 wives. He first married Rosie ?, then a woman whose name is unknown, and finally, Sally Dawkins. It is said that he was "short, rode a big mule, and had a mustache." Brother Cole (W.C.) is buried at Creston, Black Lake. He married Zula Williams who was born at Reidheimer. Brother George Washington (G.W.) married Mary Lowery and they are buried between Campti and Coushatta. Mattie Martin married Pitt Driskill and bore him 4 children, Nano, William, John, and George. Sarah married Thomas Jefferson Anderson in 1883 and bore him one daughter, Adie Arlena "Lena" Anderson, on January 14, 1887, before passing away on December 25, 1887. Adie Arlena married Steve Decatur Renfrow on June 18, 1908 and bore him 9 children. Her line also thrives to this day in Northern Louisiana. Ella married Will Stocks and bore him 3 children, Allen, Eva, and Erma. On January 1, 1891 Addie Lee Martin married Benjamin Franklin Jimmerson (pictured above left with Addie) in Bienville Parish, Louisiana. Between 1891 and 1916 she bore him 15 children, one of whom was our Maternal Grandfather Joseph Dayton Jimmerson (December 16, 1901 - November 9, 1976). The other children were William David (October 5, 1891 - July 7, 1963), Lucinda Matilda (born 1893), Andrew Franklin (born 1895), Jesse Napoleon (November 5, 1896 - November 20, 1985), Mattie Mae (born 1898), Tommy Martin (March 6, 1900 - March 27, 1985), Addie Lee (born 1903), John Harvey (March 6, 1905 - 1983), Vera Pauline (July 19, 1907 - September 16, 1993), Sara Ella (born 1909), Irma Jewel (born 1911), Henry Cleveland (1913 - 1975), Lester Glenn (January 4, 1916 - August 17, 1986), and a baby boy who passed on the same day he was born (December 7, 1914). Her line continues today down to my 2 children and many others of their generation. Addie Lee passed away in 1938 and was buried on church ground. William Henry Martin never married. His sister Cora, on the other hand, married 3 times and had 2 children, Felix Johnson who "bore all the marks of his Indian ancestry", and Lela Mae Rogers. If anyone has anything at all, please email cherokee@netrox.net thanks, Tom

Dave, This may be a "dumb" question (I'm not blonde) - but if the accident involving Hiram Edmond happened to have occurred on a Reservation, I wonder if it would have been reported to the State of New Mexico back then? The Reservations are pretty autonomous. Or have you already thought of that possibility? Regards, Pat
