Good evening to the MARTIN list members, In my database, I have the subject DANIEL with two sets of parents. The first are JOHN and MERCY (HAYWARD) MARTIN and the second are MELATIAH and REBECCA (BROOKS) MARTIN. If anyone on the list can straighten me out, it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Fran, Your Martin lineage is wonderful. Thank you for posting it. That was a lot of work and is very much appreciated. Do you know any more about the last John Martin who married Ann Spencer? Is he possibly the John Martin who died in Abbeville SC in 1821 who had also married Unity Barksdale, Anne Thompson and Nancy Barksdale? I understand that the John Martin of whom I speak was 90 when he dies which would place his birth abt 1731. You have John Martin marrying Ann Spencer in 1744 but another source has him marrying Ann Spencer in 1774. I think 1744 is a typo but can you confirm? Any suggestions as to how to find documentation that John Martin who marries Ann Spencer is the John Martin about whom I speak? Thanks so much! You have been so helpful. Karen - fortunately I have a lot to share on this family and can only tell you what I have. And the explqnation of why I have it. Many internet geneologies say that my Capt James Martin who died in Amherst co Va leaving a will in 1778 was the son of the first generation below ABRAHAM MARTIN I checked out this line very very well before I filed it and my James DOES NOT BELONG TO ABRAM but I kept my research anyway. Am conviced that most of the very early Martins in Va. were related and almost all came from the merchant Martins of Bristol England and another branch traded out of Ireland THE LINE YOU WANTED AND WHICH MAY HELP A LOT OF OTHER MARTIN RESEARCHERS Abraham Martin b 1642 Galway Ireland d 1711 York co Val md Rebecca Bell a. john Martin `2 b c 1683 md c 1702 Eliz or letitia Lewis (possibly Clark) b. James Martin 2 b1685 Virginia d 1709 St Peters Parish New Kentco Va. he also md a younger Rebecca Bell and had 3 daughters Bethia,Unity and Anne whose births are recorded in St Peters Parish New Kent. OVIOUSLY NOT MY JAMES MARTIN who was born in 1799 in Va. and since these 3 daughters were born in 1703-1708 IMPOSSIBLE. The moral of this is don't follow internet published geneologies without proving it for yourself. c. William Martin 2 b 1687 Va. d Jan 30 1709 See St Peters Parish New Kent he md Mary--------- d. Samuel Martin 2 b 1689 Va. nothing more known 3. Jean Martin 2 b c 1691 Va. md c 1715 Mathew Moore ------------------------------------this complete the second generation

There could of been more children born to them in Minnesota. They were probably in Mower, Freeborn or Faribault counties. If you have these names please contact me as I can not find them. I don't know of the descendency of John Martin who md l. Ann Spencer and 2 and 3. but I do know the first marriage was in charlotte co Va. Ann Spencer was one of the daughters of Old thomas Spencer and Elizabeth Julia Flournoy of charlotte co Va. I think she died before having many children except daughter Elizabeth Julia Martin found in S.C. surely a daughter maybe they were more. If you are able to get any responses to your e-mails I would appreciate being notified as I am both a Spencer and a Martin. Fran Fletcher. Hope this helps some
Fran, "Martins of Martin Mill" - places John Martin (d. 1821 Abbeville SC) in SC in 1768. Would he have traveled back to Charlotte VA to marry Ann Spencer in 1774? Perhaps, since that area of SC was sparsely settled at the time? He was married 2nd to Unity Barksdale (proven by her father's (John Barksdale) will), 3rd to Annie Thompson (per her tombstone & is buried with John Martin and his 4th wife) and 4th to Nancy Cartledge (proven by the will of John Martin & her tombstone.)Do you know this John Martin's ancestry? Thanks for the help. ===== Karen Grubaugh of Boerne TX To access my genealogy database go to worldconnect.rootsweb.com Database name: kgrubaugh __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Hi, Sheila, A few weeks ago I came across a post you had made on another site concerning Daniel Martin who had married Eliza Vaughn. I tried emailing you, but your address had changed. Well,to get to the point, my 4th gr grandparents, Dan Martin and Elizabeth Searle had a son also named Daniel "Dan" born 23 May 1809 in Steuben county, New York. This family moved to Morgan County Ohio after 1810. then on to Putnam county by 1830. (some other branches were in the area as earlier) Dan and Eliza were married in Allen County Ohio in 1833. He died in Sullivan County, Missouri abt 1886. If this is the same family you were referring to, please contact me personally at pennymtveiten@hotmail.com or llm214@bright.net . I anxiously await your reply! Penny
