MIchelle, I am writing from Coles County. I am on a short little trip to this area (have never been here) to do some genealogical research. Because of the cheap airline tickets I was able to get a round trip to St. Louis for $131 and have rented a car to run around. I sent you two things. The first were a few pieces of paper. That was information prepared by Lou Martin (born 1917). He assisted in the research on Eden Martin's web site and he also helped Louise Neely with her book. The second package was the big one with the book written by Louise Neely of Dallas Texas. She and her husband, Joseph Otto Neely, traveled throughout Ilinois and Texas collecting information about the Martin and Neely families. I was in Darwin Illinois yesterday checking some Neely and Martin information and trying to determine if anything has been published since she wrote her book. The information she has written is solidly based in very good research. I have found some minor problems with the people and their birthdays/deathdays, however, for the most part you can rely on a lot of the information in the narratives. She makes this stuff really interesting. About the cost. You decide what you would like to send. Others have sent $25 or $35 for the Neely book, to cover mailing and copying costs. I wanted you to have it and don't know your financial situation, so send what you are able within your family budget. Hello listers, IM looking for information on William C. MARTIN. I am guessing he could have been born abt 1807. He married Elizabeth RANSDELL d/o John RANSDELL & Lucy (CHILTON) RANSDELL. STEWART Author: M.T. T. Date: 30 Apr 2001 12:00 PM GMT Email: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- Lincoln County Leader, Jan. 25, 1895, Toledo, Oregon IN MEMORIAM Mrs. Nancy S. Stewart, departed this life at her home in Gosper County, Nebraska on Wednesday, December 19, 1894, aged 67 years, 6 months and 14 days. Nancy Scott Martin was born in Henry county, Kentucky on June 5th, 1827. While yet in her girlhood, she removed with her family to Indiana and on the 26th day of April 1859 (the date isn't clear, this is my best guess) she was united in marriage to George N. Stewart. To them were born twelve children, seven boys and five girls. Of this family there are still nine living, three of the girls having passed away. The beloved subject of this memoriam continued to enjoy the faithful companionship of her husband until May 28,1878, when death claimed her life's helpmate and she was left alone with her children. With them she continued to reside in Indiana until 1881 when with the greater part of her family she emigrated to Gosper county, Nebraska where she homesteaded a piece of land and on which she made her home until the time of her death. In her early girlhood, she united with the Christian or Campbellite church, but later on severed her relation with that church and united with the Baptist church that she might worship with the same demonination as her husband. Of the latter church, she was a faithful and consistent member for more than twenty-five years. But her conception of the Christian religion did not stop with the carrying of her name on the church record, her life was filled with many kindly deeds of Christian charity, love, forebearance and fortitude, the memory which will be a shining light for many feet that follow after her. A loving and faithful wife, she could be nothing else than a loving and patient mother. In her family, her life seemed central. Her chiefest aim was the welfare of her children, and the griefs and trials born uncomplaingly, the sore sacrifices made cheerfully and the silently uttered prayers for the welfare of her children which she has made may never be known only by Him who knoweth all things and by whom the fall of even a sparrow is noted. That she was a loving and true parent, the writer of these weak lines to her blessed memory can attest. About two years ago, feeling the weakness of age coming upon her, she quit housekeeping and lived from that time to her death with her children who lived near and with her. In the winter of 1892-93, she was attacked with the lagrippe, which was then prevalent in that country. She apparently recovered but the insidious disease had undermined a hitherto strong constitution, and during the present winter she began to fail rapidly, the disease taking the form of the dropsy of the heart. On Sunday, December 16, she began to get rapidly worse and word was telegraphed to her children, but owing to distance some of them did not get to her bedside in time to see her again alive. She passed peacefully away to her better home on Wednesday, and on Sunday, December 22nd, she was laid to rest in the beautiful little cemetery at Arapahoe, Nebraska. In her death the community have lost a good Christian woman and the family have lost that dearest friend on earth, a "kind and loving mother". In trying to find words that will tell of her many loving traits and kindess, we realize how weak are words and yet there is one word that will ever be clustered around with all love and veneration and which in our recent loss we find a new meaning. To her whom we loved and who loved and lived for us, we will give that name which now is nearer and dearer than ever--she was our mother. J. F. S. This is very obscure, but I am grasping at straws. I am trying to obtain information MARY (POLLY) MARTIN SMITH or her husband JAMES. Mary was the dau. of JOSEPH MARTIN and JOHANNA RAWLINSON MARTIN of Richland County, South Carolina; his dates were ca 1740-1833. I do not know the dates of Mary or husband James. All I know is that after her father Joseph died in 1833, her mother petitioned (in 1850) for division of Joseph Martin's estate. Heirs were listed and it said: (snip) Polley widow of James Smith in Indiana. Is anyone tracing this family? I am still trying to find information about my Luther D Martin b. 1809 married to Rutha b. 1811. They migrated to Mississippi, Union County Arkansas, on to Freestone Texas. I lose most of the family during the Civil War. My Eliza Martin (their daughter) was a very tiny woman. This must be a family trait of the group. Eliza married a Mayberry and then married my gg grandfather James Strickland. She died abt 1871/1872 in Texas. Burial is unknown. I need to know what happened to her parents and siblings. One of her brother's L D Martin married a woman by the name of Berry in Freestone. She had a brother by the name of William. Her daughter grew up with cousins Joe and George Martin. There is also suppose to be a Jane Martin possibly a sister to Eliza. Any other information would be greatly appreciated. Sharon Fite Holland Edmond, Oklahoma

Hi to the List I am seeking information about James Martin whose name appears in the baptismal records of St Baithin's RC Church, St Johnston, County Donegal, Ireland on 1 March 1857 as the father of William and husband of his second wife Elizabeth (Burns?), Sponsor, Mary. James and his first wife (?) are said to have had two sons, both drowned at sea and a daughter Mary, whose husband is also said to have drowned at sea (this impelled us to teach all our children to swim). One son is said to be Captain John Bothun Martin of the SS London, sunk in the Bay of Biscay on 11 January 1866. Any Martins out there who can supply information about these Martins especially Captain Martin and any children Mary Martin might have had? Liam Martin "A bird in the bush is worth two in the Cat"
