    1. [MARTIN-L] John Taylor Martin
    2. ctm007
    3. I am looking for information on John Taylor Martin, who was born about 1876-1877 in Tennessee. I searched social security death records and the one report below sorta fits. > | Martin, J. Birth date : Feb 19, 1877 > | Issued in : Texas > | Death date : Dec 1968 > | SS# : 453-88-9146 > | Residence code : Texas > | Zip code of last known residence : 75103 John Taylor Martin moved to Texas and married Elvira Ardella Rayburn, born on 9/25/1892, in Johnson County, Texas. The two had one child, Orbie Chesley Martin, born on 12-16-1913 in Hill County, Texas and Orbie Chesley Martin married three women, the first was Bessie Lee Murchison, my mother. John Taylor Martin had at least two additional children by some one before Elvira Ardella Rayburn. These two children were Willie Martin and Lillie Martin. Willie whereabouts are unknown. Lillie married Marvin Barnes and lived with him in Dallas, TX. My questions are 1)- Who was the first wife of John Taylor Martin?, 2)- Did Willie and Lillie have additional brothers and sisters?, 3)- Since Elvira Ardella Rayburn was born in Johnson County, TX and her one child was born in Hill County, Texas am I right to assume John Taylor Martin & Elvira were married in Texas probably in 1913, 1912, 1911 or 1910. Did courts maintain marriage records in those years? I welcome any information or suggestions. Carl Martin ctm007@hal-pc.org

    3. John Taylor Martin and his wife Elvira Ardella Rayburn Martin lived in Hill County, Texas in 1913 when a son, Orbie Chesley Martin was born on 12-16-1913. I am looking for the brothers and sisters of Orbie Chesley Martin. The census records of 1920 should reveal the information for the household of John Taylor Martin, who was born in 1876-1877 in Tennessee. Carl Martin ctm007@hal-pc.org

    3. Hi, I'm looking for information on my Martin family line. My ggrandparents are David Martin and Elizabeth V."Foreman"6. I don't know how many children they had just that one of them was my grandfather. My Grandfathers name is James Harry Martin, b Jan 6, 1886 in Arkansas City, Kansas and d Mar 3, 1945 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. He was married to Martha Mae Fields, b Feb 24, 1901 in Oklahoma and d June 5, 1978 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. They are both buried in the Newkirk Oklahoma cemetary. I was told that James Harry Martin and also his wife Martha Mae "Fields" were both from sets of twins. I can go back to the Fields side for my grandmothers twin and other information but I am at a stand still for information on the Martin side. My grandparents had 4 children. David, Arnold, Wilma and Viola Bell. With Viola being my mother. They lived in Newkirk (Kay County), Oklahoma in the later years of their lives and possibly even in their earlier years as well. Information that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Brenda

    1. Re: [MARTIN-L] Fw: John and Rebecca Martin
    2. There possibly may be more Azariahs than you think. The first place you might try is Obediah Martin Senior son of Captain James Martin and Elizabeth Crawford Obediah Martin Sr. was born in 1738 in Hanover co Va. md in 1758 in Caroline co Va. to Elizabeth Ann Turner. they had several known children and more that are probably unknown at this point. Our family researchers have not tied this down totally. We know that Obediah got land in Caswell co N.C. in 1783, the land fell into Orange co when it broke off of Caswell 1774 he was on the tax list of Caswell co N.C. It looks like most of his children would have been born from 1759-1790 We have found him selling the land he got in 1783 in 1796 in Orange co N.C. and the same date another deed was made confirming the sale of his Amherst co land to his cousin John Martin son of his uncle Stephen Martin . Its entirely possible that Obediah had an Azariah.....the problem is we have not been able to find all his children. We do Know that Obediah became a primitive Baptist preacher and pastored a church in Claiborne co Tenn. The other member of Capt James family that we know very little about is John Martin who md Mary Rogers in Goochland co va. John lived around Alb Amherst area on the land he got by deed from his father. Evidently was not successful, got into debt and left the area we do know that However we have no idea where he went or the names of his children. I should think that the above two leads might help you without telling me that the Azariahs that md the Rhodes girls were not fitting into your idea of your Azariah. We have probably 6 to 8 dedicated researchers working on this family and most of them did their work before the internet which could be such a wonderful source if there was not so much erroneous unproved information floating around. When I say a line is proved it means that I have deeds, wills if available, land records, mg records census records and bible records when available not to mention service records and parish records If it includes something that someone has TOLD ME you can bet that it is not mentioned unless its proved. Good genealogy is not easy or swift. - we have recently found that Obediah Martin Sr. above died in claiborne co Tenn. c 1812 no will just deeds to some of his children. To save you needless search in the Capt James Martin, Elizabeth Crawford family the following children are all proved with some descendents down 2 or 3 generations. in order of birth for the most part. Sarah md Wm Terrell Lewis, movedto Surry co NC. NO AZARIAH among his children. Obediah mentioned above not totally proved. John mentioned above not totally proved. William Martin md a cousin stayed in Va. no Azariah in his family. David (my line) md Mary Mann had Salatheil and Obediah went to Surrry co N.C. no Azariah there Elizabeth md Anthony and went to Caswell and surry co N.C. no Azariah Anthonys James Jr. who md Sarah Harris and Azariah Martin the youngest of captain James James Jr. had an Azariah who md a Rhodes and his uncle Azariah also md a Rhodes. I have already submitted their information. I do know of another Obediah Martin that I have traced. I found him in the Halifax Va. records and I do know that some of his descendents went to I believe Illinois. However I have never been able to tie that man into our family. There was another Azariah Martin that I found in Revolutionery war records from New Jersey. We have not tied him into our immediate family. Happy Hunting Fran
